- Young protagonists - the MC doesn't recognize his feelings for the girl and sees her as an "opponent" to compete against at first - both shows have comedic elements - both shows depict very cute, innocent, wholesome romances with a similar feel

Kanata no Astra

Similar premise teenagers lost in space. While Kanata no Astra is more light hearted/positive and has a balance between humor and drama, Mugen no Ryvius is generally more serious and tackles social and political issues (some call it "Lord of the Flies in space"). Kanata no Astra has a strong focus on friendship while Mugen no Ryvius creates a realistic battles of power between different factions all the while everyone tries to survive. As I said both share a similar premise, but Mugen no Ryvius is definitely darker and more mature, keep that in mind.

Both incorporate - many game references - gaming eastereggs - and jokes about said games Falcom Gakuen is absurd slapstic comedy about Falcom games (Ys, Legend of Heroes, Xanadu) in a fictional world, Hi Score Girl is taking place in a realistic 80s setting but has a lot of direct and well informed game related humor (Street Fighter, Double Dragon, Final Fight... and tons more). If you're into Japanese games, especially in the retro territory, both are very recommendable.

Yagate Kimi ni Naru

Both deal with "forbidden" love on the surface but are much more than than that. Both are deep and intricate psychological studies about realistically portrayed people on a journey of self discovery through the "lens" of the affections they have with each other. Both are very subtle introspective shows with strong direction. Both share the same slightly muted color palette.
