After seeing all of the hype this show was getting and people comparing it to K-On (one of my favorite animes) I had to give it a try ASAP. favorite points of this show.
Point 1: Accurate Music Playing
When I look for new music animes to watch, I look for the ones that take the time and care to perfect every small detail to cater to the audience as much as possible. As I have played viola since 3rd grade (now in my sophomore year of college) I appreciate when music anime nail the precision of characters' musical performances. Shows like Sound Euphonium and Your lie in April due this exceptionally well and bring so much depth to the show. Even though I don't play guitar, I still understand the intricacies and difficulties associated with learning to play it. Bocchi the Rock excels at displaying this key aspect by matching every fingering, string pluck, drum hit to match with the soundtrack. It may sound weird for some but many shows don't follow this extra step and instead focus on other elements. Even when they mess up their playing during some of the songs, the playing animations match up with the erratic change in sound.
Point 2: Comedy
Now I was not expecting to laugh as much as I did when watching this show. I only saw a few clips of the funny moments throughout the show but I was definitely caught off guard many times. Bocchi steals the show with her sudden mood swings to combat her social anxiety problems when interacting with her other Kessoku bandmates and other people around her. Ryou and Nijika play off of each other's jokes well which leads to funny moments with them fighting over certain situations. Kita does not add much to the comedy in my opinion but she does have her moments as well. The only character who can keep up with Bocchi's wackiness is Hiori. With her introduction, she acts as the typical older drunken fool with her constantly being intoxicated and acting out on sheer impulse. She is the real wild card in this show and that makes it even better. She is also surprisingly wholesome and helps cheer up Bocchi when she needs to as well.
Point 3: Bocchi's Development
Dealing with confidence problems and social anxiety myself helped me relate to Bocchi's struggles to improve herself. While mine is not as severe as hers, I often find myself being alone on many occasions so I can process my thoughts before hanging out with people. As I was lucky to meet suchcan friends, I am able to open up more than I have before, and therefore makes me feel more comfortable with who I am. Now, this does not come without its complications as I constantly question my appearance and if it's okay for people to see me for what I really look like. Now Bocchi on the other hand starts off unable to talk to anyone as a result of her being an introverted individual. While she may want to be outgoing and make new friends all the time, it is almost impossible for her to step out of her shell. With the help of Nijika, Ryou and Kita, she is able to accept herself and starts to be more outgoing as a result. However, she still deals with common issues talking to strangers but is slowly making improvements in that area as well. Being an introvert myself I do find certain scenarios scary to approach and will often avoid them as much as I can. After the fact, I do feel sad that I missed out on certain opportunities or interactions I could have had if I was able to speak up. While I don't want to make this a self-insert as Bocchi's situation is more extreme then mine, I like drawing simlarities between me and the characters I watch on screen.
Point 4: Art Style/Animation
Knowing that Cloverworks was behind this project I already knew that I would be in for a treat with animation. The backgrounds are great, the character's movements are smooth and they incorporate unique styles to match the mood of the characters. Encapsulating all the different emotions of Bocchi by changing the art style drastically or using a different background was a great choice by the studio as well.
Final Point: Soundtrack
As it is a music show it should obviously have a great soundtrack to come with it. This is where I started to draw more similarities with K-on as some of the songs do follow similar melodies or guitar solos throughout the songs but they each have a completely different vibe when listening to them back to back. Bocchi the Rock does a great job of mixing great rock tracks with mellow and slower songs without messing with the flow of the scene. The soundtrack is on Spotify and I recommend giving it a listen if you haven't already.
Now I don't like comparing other shows with each other, as I have mentioned before I feel that Bocchi the Rock will be the K-On of our generation and continue to grow a large and loyal fanbase as a result. This show is very fun to watch and a nice break from the shounen heavy season we just had with Fall 2022. If you are interested in music comedy shows, Bocchi the Rock is a great show to give a watch.

This review will be on the shorter side as there are many things to unpack and discuss that may spoil future moments in the series and take away from the experience of anime-only fans. With the sheer amount of support 86 received in the first season, I was sure that this would be an upgrade. I was surprised by the improvements but was also afraid of how the delays would affect the work of the show. Considering my hype for the show was at an all-time high coming into the season, I was disappointed at the breaks and thought the show would not return the same. But I do believe A-1 Pictures was able to finish off this season strong and give us a good ending to this adaptation of the series.

Where do I even start with this one?
Well, I just finished this show and I couldn't be more confused as to what I watched. Don't get me wrong, Tengen is cool, the animation is god-tier, but what I struggle to find is anything else.
