When I was a kid, I watched anime without really understanding what it was, such as Dragon Ball Z and Ghibli films. It just depended on what VCR my family happened to buy. As anime came to television, I recorded Shaman King every Saturday morning so I could watch it later, but I still didn't really understand what made anime so different from everything else. It was appealing to me, and that was all.
It wasn't until I was in college, when online media was taking over the world and Attack on Titan was exploding in popularity that I started to consider anime as its own medium. When I saw Eren get eaten by the titan, that was when I realized just how crazy and awesome anime could be. It was different from everything else, and I wanted to see more of it! I started searching out other series. My boyfriend recommended Bakemonogatari to me, and although it took me a few tries to adapt to the dialogue, once I did, I was invested. I thought to myself, "This is it. This is what anime is capable of!" I was completely engrossed in the characters, the complex ideas of anthropomorphism, the animation, the tone - everything about the Monogatari series had me hooked.
But the final straw that sparked my love for anime was in 2017 when I watched Land of the Lustrous and Made in Abyss. Seeing Phosphophyllite struggling to make a better place for gems to live, wanting to have a meaning but finding it hard to value himself - Reg and Riko traversing the Abyss, how desperate Reg was to keep Riko safe and how their lives were always at stake - after literally sobbing for an entire episode each, I realized that: ANIME IS THE BEST THING EVER - and that I was undeniably an Otaku! Been a long while!! How've you been?!! (≧▽≦)/
Its where we mostly hangout!!
Its been on my playlist, for the past two months!!
I've heard a few of the songs that you recommended (mainly the King's Avatar and AOT S2)
If you're interested in a pleasant OST, Your Lie in April, Made in Abyss, and Re:Creators have ones that I enjoy
I wouldn't say it's scary, more so psychological if anything, it's a weird one, but I'd say it's an experience if you get into it, I'm glad I watched it ^_^.
There are also some mystery elements to it if you enjoy that o.o.
