They both play with the idea of a group of characters who put on a different personality for their guests' entertainment at their job/club. Ouran goes a little deeper with it, while Blend S chooses to focus on a romance as the series progresses, but both shows are at their best when they're exploring who these characters really are in contrast to the roles they play.

Wonder Egg Priority

These series had similar elements but different strengths. Two tales of a group of girls becoming empowered to fight against a mystical-- and at times sci-fi-esque-- sort of evil by exploring and overcoming their inner demons... Wonder Egg Priority is notably heavier on the darkness and inner demons. And it's got this 'wow' factor that Akanesasu Shoujo kind of lacks. But... it turns into this total trainwreck starting at about episode 8. Wonder Egg was a show of extremes. When it was good, it was amazing. But when it got bad, it was really terrible. Meanwhile, Akanesasu may not have been as striking an experience... But I found it more satisfying, overall. All the characters get their time to shine, and you get a complete story within the 12 episodes. Akanesasu Shoujo would be my first pick for someone looking for a follow-up to Wonder Egg Priority. Or maybe just something to watch in place of Wonder Egg Priority, if you've been turned off by all the negative reviews it got after its 'ending.'

Two stories about grief, growing up, and friendship. (With two beautiful soundtracks, too.)

If you liked Belle, you'll love Anthem of the Heart. Both main characters suffer bad blows to their self-esteem after a childhood trauma, (while Suzu just can't sing anymore without making herself sick, Jun's lost the ability to talk at all) but overcome that with the help of some good friends and the healing power of music. Sounds cheesy, I know, but it was super moving.

I actually thought they were both pretty boring, but if you did enjoy one, you'd probably like the other. They're both very realistic movies with that beautiful Ghibli artwork. And the real highlight of both: no one portrays childhood quite like Ghibli manages to.

Zodiac P.I. made me think of Fruits Basket a bit in terms of the shared mystical feel. One is about astrological signs and the other Chinese zodiac animal designations... but both have their own lore about how the date and time of your birth can influence your personality. Though Fruits Basket doesn't really have any detective elements, it does have a mystery to it, and they're also both older shoujo series with strong romances.

These anime share that theme of teenagers struggling to overcome a dark event from their past, for one. But mostly, I got a really similar feel from Jinta's and Shoya's characters and how they were affected by their individual tragedies. They both start out as confident, outgoing little boys-- the ringleaders of their groups of friends. ...And then grow up to be really withdrawn and insecure. It was one of the most striking elements of A Silent Voice for me, and though the focus on that element in Jinta's story is a little more subtle, it's definitely there and reminded me a lot of Shoya.

As of right now, they're both still publishing, and one only has 2 volumes under its belt, but I've noticed some similar elements. They each have that royal aesthetic, following heirs to a kingdom in a world that hasn't quite caught up to real-life technology. They also each focus more on the technical/political aspects of running a kingdom than your typical fantasy. (Which is the main thing that made one remind me of the other.)

It might be quicker to list the things these shows DON'T have in common. Similarities include: A strong comedic element Lots of otaku culture references The characters are all a little deeper than first meets the eye Funimation gave each of them a really good dub, if you watch anime in English Basically, they're each a break-down of the reverse harem genre, spurred on by a main heroine who doesn't really fit the role. If you enjoyed one, I'm sure you'll like the other.

Two stories about overly cautious young girls growing up and learning to be brave through their encounters with spirits and mythical creatures. Spirited Away has more of an immersion into the spirit side of things. A Letter to Momo focuses more on the family aspect. But I definitely saw similarities between Momo and Chihiro-- the two protagonists.
