Oh Studio Trigger, you never let us down except for when you do. i think what has been forged here is a modern classic, and an animation masterpiece. Promare is a highly modern film that takes advantage of recent animation techniques and tackles topics that are extremely relevant in 2019.
Promare is one of the best looking animated projects i have ever seen in my life, Studio Trigger's impressive grasp of perspective and angles clash with their dynamic colors and absurdly fluid animation. the character designs feel familar, but not at the cost of being generic, the shots are equally familiar, it's been done before, but

in a good way. there's a lot of this movie that feels like it's banking on the audience getting it's references and understanding it's tropes, but i don't feel as if anything would be lost if they didn't. the usage of CG is implemented near perfectly, perhaps with an awkward transition here or there, but it's far more of a boon than a bane.
the story? the plot? get out of here with that, that's not what this is about. Even as is the story of Promare isn't terrible, it has very basic progression, but it's charming, it has spunk. The soundtrack is good too.
Overall i think Promare might be my second favorite animated movie of the decade, my feelings on it echo much of my same feelings on Spider-Verse, it's imperfect, but it's stylish, memorable, and really made me feel something, i'm excited to see what Trigger ends up producing in the future.

It’s kind of hard to review a series that is essentially a hentai, hentai is made for the purpose of titulating the viewer, giving them masturbation material, and everybody gets turned on by completely different things. When you look at a series of that nature and give it a negative review, people are going to assume it’s just because you aren’t into whatever fetishes are being offered by the series, if you give it a postive review, people are going to assume that the series “Fappable” to you, and not neccesarily anything else. You can’t look at Interspecies Reviewers as just a comedy either, it
...
is a series about it’s main characters having sex, there are jokes about the sex, but the sex is the draw and the jokes are merely whipped cream on the cake. It’s an Ecchi first, and a comedy second. Is it good at being an ecchi? That all depends entirely on the viewer, there’s definitely competency displayed in it’s attempts to titulate the viewer, the fetishes involved in each episode are varied, the races of the girls that have intercourse with our all male main cast are equally diverse, there’s a good amount of time put into the sex scenes, it understands how to show just enough to make the viewer feel something towards it. As an ecchi series, you’re unlikely to find a lot better than it.
As a comedy, i wouldn’t call it sub-par, but it’s definitely not winning any awards. It’s hard to make jokes that can penetrate the language barrier, so subbed comedies often just don’t find an audience with non-japanese speakers. Part of the reason the jokes often miss is just because they’re something that’s been done so many different times in anime, it’s unique in how far it’s willing to go, but it doesn’t do anything interesting when it gets there. You’ll get an occasional kick out of seeing vulgar words and actions, but that’s about it, it’s not really funny.
The animation is so unremarkable it’s hard to even squeeze out a paragraph to describe it. If you’ve seen a 10’s fantasy anime, you’ll know what this series looks like, it’s art style is alright, not particularly good or unique. I will say that the character designs do actually have some real personality to them, which is basically a requirment for a series like this.
The universe is surprisingly well developed, and pretty interesting to boot. Although the plot is pretty much just an excuse to bridge the gaps between the sex scenes, it still manages to find a way to make things pretty entertaining. The main party members are distinct, and have interesting personalities, their dynamics and interactions between each other, and between the one off characters.
Overall, Interspecies Reviewers is a masterpiece of Ecchi, and highly unremarkable if you’re looking for anything else.

Buublegum Crisis is a peculiar series. It seemed to be very popular in both the US and japan at the time of it's release, but nowadays nobody seems to be talking about it at all, maybe that's due to the fact that it hasn't got a new installment in ages, or just that it doesn't jive well with modern audiences, among the people that do talk about Bubblegum Crisis is considered something of a classic, and i think that it's reputation definitely holds up well in that regard.
This series LOOKS fantastic, it's probably my favorite looking anime from the 80's, from the character designs
...
to the art style to how fluid the animation can get. this show looks amazing. It only gets better and better as it goes on, and more interesting character designs get introduced, and the characters that we already know feel more expressive and more well animated, like the staff had gotten a lot better at drawing them by episode 8.
The music is so 80's it hurts, and i mean that in the best way, it has this distinct sound and feel that just gives off a unique sound that you really aren't going to hear in modern anime, i love it.
The plot is where it starts to get rocky, this show absolutely shows the fact that it was cut short, episode 8 was far from a satisfying ending, but this show did get a continuation though. It's very episodic, and that sometimes gets in the way of delivering a plot that leaves you feeling something, but i felt that Bubblegum crisis' highs aren't really in whats going on in the plot, the story is pretty simple and surprisingly uneventful, it's mostly just fighting villains of the week, and the supporting cast are also mostly one-off characters that aren't particularly interesting or memorable. the best parts of this show are the ones that are just the main four girls interacting with each other, whether it's in their civilian lives, or on the battlefield as Kight Sabres, the chemistry between all four of the main characters palpable. each one of them is also a stand-out, recognizable. memorable character, and their characterization is where the show thrives. You get enough of the main characters together that Bubblegum Crisis feels like a worthwhile series, despite the fact that the regular episode to episode plots were so lackluster.
Overall, Bubblegum Crisis is a classic, a great series that is definitely worth a watch, even if it happens to come with a few issues, it's still a fantastic time all around.
