Promare (Anime) add (All reviews)

Oh Studio Trigger, you never let us down except for when you do. i think what has been forged here is a modern classic, and an animation masterpiece. Promare is a highly modern film that takes advantage of recent animation techniques and tackles topics that are extremely relevant in 2019.

Promare is one of the best looking animated projects i have ever seen in my life, Studio Trigger's impressive grasp of perspective and angles clash with their dynamic colors and absurdly fluid animation. the character designs feel familar, but not at the cost of being generic, the shots are equally familiar, it's been done before, but in a good way. there's a lot of this movie that feels like it's banking on the audience getting it's references and understanding it's tropes, but i don't feel as if anything would be lost if they didn't. the usage of CG is implemented near perfectly, perhaps with an awkward transition here or there, but it's far more of a boon than a bane.

the story? the plot? get out of here with that, that's not what this is about. Even as is the story of Promare isn't terrible, it has very basic progression, but it's charming, it has spunk. The soundtrack is good too.

Overall i think Promare might be my second favorite animated movie of the decade, my feelings on it echo much of my same feelings on Spider-Verse, it's imperfect, but it's stylish, memorable, and really made me feel something, i'm excited to see what Trigger ends up producing in the future.
