I normally don't write reviews, heck this is my first one since I started watching anime in the year 2000 but I felt compelled to write about this abomination.
So I first learned about Diabolik Lovers when I saw some funny images of a bunch of guys treating a girl very coldly. I though this was some sort of anti romance/harem show so I decided to give it a go expecting to laugh. Boy, I couldn't be more wrong.
So this anime is derived from a Visual Novel which is problem one. Usually a VN turned anime will suffer from pacing issues trying to jam a 30+hour
...
story into episodes of 23 minutes, and this is the case here for sure. There just isn't enough information to go on, and it feels quite rushed, even worse when we only get 15 minutes an episode (that includes an opening and ending) so its more like 12/13 minutes.
So we get this girl called Yui who gets send to stay with a group of guys who end up being vampires, problem two. Usually vampires are cool and such, here they're just dicks. In fact at the start of the show they got very few differences. Besides the glasses guy and the fedora guy with his little nickname for Yui it's hard to tell who is who since they all act like dicks and their arrogance is going through the roof all the time. There isn't much plot to speak off till chapter 7, and even that is shit at best. the early episodes are just different brothers acting like a dick to Yui. I never played the VN so i don't know if its any better, but I for the love of me can't figure out who would like this to begin with. Got to really be macocist to like this show, or just really get amused easily.
Story 3/10
It at least has some story throughout the final episodes, but it's just bad. We got some early flashbacks (which tell you nothing for the record) before we got told why Yui is there at the mansion. You expect it to get better from episode 7? well you're out of luck because it gets even worse. Yeah, the best part of this show is the guys acting like a dick towards Yui, tells you how good this show is, right?
Art 4/10
It's not bad looking, I give it that. but it's not good either. Nothing really stands out, and besides the guys looking like your typical bishonen there is nothing that makes you say "wow, that scenery looked pretty". Heck I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 because the guys are the only good looking thing in it.
Sound 5/10
Some tracks are nice to listen too, the only good thing about this show really. Forgetabble really fast though.
Characters 1/10
Yeah... like I said there isn't much of a difference between brother 1 to 6 besides their looks. The only one I remember is Ayato and that is because he's the same voice actor as Kyousuke from Little Busters. The rest is so damn shit even their bishonen look doesn't save them.
Enyoment 2/10
Like I said at the start, I watched this because of some funny images where the guys acted cold and superior and expected some type of comedy, that's the only really fun part, that one scene with the pool and Ayato, and the one scene with the tea with the glasses brother.
Overal 3/10
I honestly don't know why I even finsihed this, maybe because I felt invested in it after 7 episodes, or maybe because it's shorter than a usual anime but it's just really bad. Unless you really enjoy seeing a girl get treated like shit by a bunch of pretty boys (ok, that's a fetish for someone out there), just don't bother.
