I simply respond to how I understood your words and if I did miss the point, then I'd be glad to entertain your concerns— as long as it's civil, so don't worry you weren't being rude at all. I'm not sure what you meant about Haibanes being held in the world, but if it refers to their sense of belonging and purpose, then I did not deny any of those. They're well-acknowledged by the townspeople of Gile and exclusively follow established rules governed by the Togas, including labor services and wearing of secondhand clothes only. So no, their jobs are actually something they need to do, as advised by the higher-ups. Even Kana goes frantic when she realizes she's almost late for work. Does she gain something from it? Yes. Money? No. Resolve? Yes. That's why I said it felt like a trial to the Haibanes, as they're not necessarily "pure" and would have to undergo redemption, which is mostly done through giving service to the town until the Day Of Flight comes. That, and personal discovery for purpose prior to their deaths. Though, you're right about wanting to learn experience through their jobs, but that's besides the point.

Fuu was more like a catalyst, if anything else. Her disappearance shifts the story into darker tone and provides conflict for Rakka alone. It's true that it was common for the other Haibanes to move on after the departure of one of their own, as it's almost like a custom; all except Rakka, who experience it for the first time. Might I add that it's not just the Haibanes though, even the townspeople who knew Kuu were quick to accept she's gone. Also yeah I agree, I thought they all didn't seem that close enough, even with the first half mostly showing the girls bonding together. I have Natsume Yuujinchou in my PTW list, I'll consider that as a recommendation of yours and I might just message you again. I'd be grateful if we can discuss more too, just leave a comment anytime. I'll think of something I might recommend to you as well, thanks!

Hello again! Don't worry, it's perfectly fine. I agree that the series did not really intend to prompt expectations at its first half, but rather centered on progressively building intrigue the further its plot and world-build expand. We're just as clueless as the characters in the story learning about the world, and I think that's a great way to sustain immersion. The art style did feel cozy, it feels warm and familiar, especially in the Old Home. That's why when the tone shifts midway, it started to feel empty and depressing in the same place that once felt like home to them.

It's great that you were able to relate with a character, I think that's where Haibane Renmei excels the most; its character depth (though it applies to Rakka and Reki at best). The other characters did have their share of personal stories, but weren't given much attention (especially Kuu) whereas the 2 main characters. It's alright though, at least they didn't seem like background-fillers to the story without presence, right?

True, it did feel like the overall concept was mirrored in a state of Purgatory. That's an interesting take on the Haibanes! For me, I took it like a trial to them; granted not as much challenging as that of sin-bounds (to acknowledge the sins they're not even aware of), but were still tasked to provide service to the town and find their personal redemption while their time still isn't up. I don't even know why I'm being specific, hehe sorry, but I'm sure you get me. I thought the series was something to reflect upon onself, it's open for interpretation sure, but that also means you're free to interpret its symbolism and messages however you see fit. I liked the series, it's a fresh experience from a medium so heavily condensed into typical anime tropes and identical story-structures. I'll probably pick it up again someday too, I hope you get to learn something new from it when you do rewatch!

Hello! I finished Haibane Renmei recently and I thought it was interesting. Can I get your thoughts on it?
