This a simple review (So far. May add more later.)
*Note: I watched the original Trigun and enjoyed it, I still have one of the first DVD copies of it.*
Foremost, I say, "Give it a try"!
This new version of Trigun should be considered an alternate storyline.
Some differences from the original are:
Media - Most notably the animation. The original was old-school drawn anime, and this new version uses CGI, which nowadays CGI is being utilized more. At first, it is weird since many of us are used to the normal visual media of anime, but after a while, you get used to it.
...
Characters - Some characters have been changed, have different personalities, or were simply removed from the series. This is what changes the story completely, and makes it its own stand-alone story. (I miss Milly's character.)
Story - There are new and background stories, while others have been removed. For example, in the first episode, we see what happen to Vash as a child, which was not done in the original.
In the end, it kind of boils down to which one is better, the original or the new version. Well, I would say both are good on their own and shouldn't be compared, but that is kind of hard too. I feel like similar anime that have been redone go through several changes.
This makes me think of how people feel about Star Wars, more specifically which movies were the better ones, the first ones or the prequels? It seems that it all depends on which one you saw first. Same with anime, if you saw the original you have fun memories of it, and the new version may just not compare since you already have an expectation about it. This is why I try to watch anime that has been remade as its own story, it makes it easier to tell whether I like it without much bias.
