Both delve in the pain of being outed in a very poignant fashion. The main characters of each title is able to move forward and take on the judgementality of his peers thanks to the allies he has giving him courage. Both also have at least one female character that isn't just a plot device, as is the case with BL, but a compelling character in her own right.

Both have a similar shoujo-esque feel to it. Quirky characters with only a few traits but they work just fine in the setting of the show and fill their roles decently. Inoffensive and lighthearted, both shows are basically the definition of "playing it safe" as far as comedy goes.

Both are grounded and personal tales about life with all of it's bitterness and sweetness. A perfect balance of lightheartedness and realism. A naturally unfolding drama that shows a lot of thought to the characters. Both works have a lot of heart put into them and I highly recommend watching both.
