The two shows feature a similar premise - children and teenagers/young adults as characters, post-apocalyptic setting, fantasy elements (powers & other creatures/lifeforms). Both feature characters uncovering mysteries and going on journeys, and ask lots of questions, ranging from philosophical and ethical to hypothetical. Although Tengoku Daimakyou is not tagged with horror (at the time of this rec), the type of fear it instils is very similar to that of Shinsekai yori, in that they both leave you feeling very uneasy and on edge, along with moments of panic and the shock of realisation. Overall, they have a very similar vibe and someone who enjoys one of these shows will most likely enjoy the other.
