おはよう! anime and manga fans!
You've found the MAL profile of "AnimeHabitue" 【アニメ・ハビチュエ】a.k.a. "PaladinMRB" or just "Paladin". I'm a long time fan of Anime and animation in general. Oh and "habitué" is a French term meaning, mainly "a frequent visitor to a particular place, a devotee". Since the term "anime" in Japan originated with the French "animé" (simply meaning "animation") I coined "AnimeHabitue" to mean "A Devotee of Animation".
Of course, like the rest of you MAL users, I'm here keeping track of my collection and my watch history. Also if you view my list I do occasionally write full reviews in the "comments" for an entry, so try clicking "more" on an item to see.
In addition to Japan's vast anime library (and the focus of MAL), it's also worth noting that I'm also a pretty big fan of all things animated. Of course Disney and Pixar almost go without saying -- as does Studio Ghibli in the world of anime -- but in particular I enjoy vintage (early 20th century up through the 1960's) American "Studio Animation" from Warner Bros., Fleischer Studios, MGM, Lantz, etc. But also more modern independent fare like Don Bluth (Secret of NHIM, American Tail), Ralph Bakshi (Wizards, Fire & Ice), Matt Groenig (The Simpsons, Futurama) or John Kricfaluci (Ren & Stempy, The Ripping Friends).
That out of the way, at this point I can say I've been around a while. I am an American, and come from right at the very end of what we Americans call "Generation-X". For me Japanese Anime was something I gradually discovered. I took a real interest after enrolling in a Japanese-language course in High-School where I was given some early Anime recommendations by some classmates. Yes, the classic "Akira" was my first introduction to anime (I caught it on the old "Sci-Fi" channel's "Saturday Anime" program). That is until college when Anime went much more "mainstream" (or at least became commercially accessible) in the early 2000's, by which time I was in my 20's. Essentially, I started watching and collecting anime around the year 2000 and haven't looked back.
Originally, I was into "Fantasy" (Lodoss War, Berserk) and "Space Fantasty" (Captain Tylor, Cowboy Bebop, Crest of the Stars) themed shows and OVA, and those are still my "staple" favorites but, I eventually graduated into pretty much all anime genres.
These days, I spend a fair amount of time (re)watching the shows in my collection and sifting through the new releases on Crunchyroll and other places that stream or carry anime online than anything else "on TV". I also get in arrears purposefully; I prefer to binge watch shows by the cour if possible rather than keep up on simulcasts. Even when I go out of phase and watch more American live action fare or get into a video gaming groove, I'm always habitually keeping up on the anime world for all good things new and old.
