A student at Franklin Military Academy in Richmond, Virginia was suspended for writing students' names in a book labeled as "Death Note". The principal of the school caught the student reading the list of names in the Death Note. According to fellow students, he did not say much, and he always kept to himself. People at the school, even the ones who had their name on the list are not afraid of him. The student was suspended from school. The principal even had to send letters to parents describing the situation, and where he got the idea from

This isn't the fault of the anime, this guys just an idiot. He should know better to pull this kind of crap, especially with all of the school shootings that have been in the news for the past few years. The fact that he would bring this to school just shows that he's crying out for attention. Although they are totally different situations this incident reminds me of the other kid who saw Naruto and then attempted to do some kind of "sand burial" type thing. It was just some young kids playing around but the poor boy ended up suffocating on the sand and he died. People look at this and they blame the anime. But that's not really the problem is it? Its the fact that these kids were playing, unsupervised and they pulled a stunt, unaware of how dangerous it was. The problem in both these cases is a distinct lack of common sense, coupled with a lack of parental intervention. Parents should be aware of what their kids are watching and should know if their child is having emotional problems or not adjusting to society, like the boy with the death note. Anime is just entertainment. It shouldn't be used as a scapegoat for the raw stupidity that is our society.

What idiot brings a Death Note to school in plain view of teachers?! I agree with LionPaws, Death Note isn't the problem and the principal should have sent the student to the counsler. I saw the video about it and I was shaking my head the whole time, at least if anime fans who haven't watched Deat Note yet got an advertisement xD

i think the teacher did the right thing. Imagine there was no anime "death note"... this kid pretty much wrote a list of people he wanted dead. Well, the teacher wouldn't know whether it was a joke or not, so he dealt with the situation in an appropriate manner. What if someone in your school had a hitlist. Well, some kid in my school did. No one was really scared of him, we just thought he was a little akward.. when the school found the "hitlist" he got suspended and personally, im glad he was.

this kid really needed some time away from school, and he really should solve his mental problems. Do i think this needed to be reported by the media? No, not at all. Though the only reason it was even on the news is because it related to a japanese show.

i agree

About how the kid needs some time to bring himself back to realty or that the only reason this was even announced was for the fact that its related to a Japanese TV show?

Either way i agree with the fact that the kid needs some vacation time
I also agree that this was only announced because its related to a Japanese TV show :P

the only reason (or at least the only reason that I think) why someone would wanna create a hit list/death note would be to kill those that bully, tease, insult him. In public schools it is very common that the weird person that no one likes wants to kill half the school for makin' fun of him. And dont think that public schools are the only ones with this, I see A LOT of kids get picked on in Private schools too (Eg: Catholic Schools) Epically the ones that are mentally challenged/disturbed. (No offense to those people that are that, that are reading this)

Its not really that person's fault, its societies fault for letting things get outta hand, of course no one really cares.

I wanna make one JUST so I can laugh at everyone for freakin' out over a retard notebook.

i would like 2 see u say that 2 the parents of the dead students at vignira tech and colibine and other school shootings
wouldn't be so funny if some 1 killed you and the school knew he had a book called a death note now would it?

I still think it's an overreaction. I was planning to dress up like Kira for Halloween and carry around a "Death Note" as part of the costume. Say I wrote some people's name in the notebook, what, am I planning premeditated murder now? Seriously, if the kid wrote down how he was planning to bring a gun to school, that is something to worry about. Names in a notebook? Psh. I know people have a reason to worry with all the recent shootings at school, but we can't all start acting irrational. If you use fear to justify your actions, then you can justify anything. It's almost the same thing as sticking people of a certain race in concentration camps if we start a war with a certain country. It's not right.

that would be difrent since u were doing it as a joke but if the kid kept the notebook and added 2 the book then its a diffrent story
think of it this way don't call the notebook as a death note but as a hit list would that change what u guys think of it?

i have been wondering if it is any bad to write someones name on a death noteO_O well it doesnt bring any harm does it??? ...though he is promoting anime in an another method.

Dec 2, 2007 2:56 AM by DarkFlash

I hope people don't blame the anime for this. If the kid was writing names in the Death Note then he surely had problems BEFORE he watched the show/read the manga...
