Gakkou Gurashi and Chikyuu no Houkago portrays a story that combines elements of slice of life, mystery, and psychological themes. Although some events seems normal at first, readers will quickly find out that there's bizarre circumstances regarding their settings. Both series' consists of a diverse character cast with different personalities. As the story progresses, we learn about more of these characters including their past. Gakkou Gurashi is also known for some of its violence related to zombies while Chikyuu no Hokuago has more mystery elements.

In both stories most of humanity has been wiped out by monsters and both stories follows the survivors that is still alive.

Both of these manga are very similar in their aesthetic and feel. The art is very similar, they are both mysterious and they both involve all people disappearing from the planet. Reading both of them somehow really relaxes me and they feel very chill while at the same time slowly unraveling the mysteries of the suddenly drastically changed world.

What do you do when everyone is gone? Well, you could do like cute stuff mixed with more poetic existential stuff. You should probably do both just to be sure.

Similar calming atmosphere. Chikyuu no Houkago has major sci-fi and mystery elements, while Yotsubato is purely slice of life.

It's Tokyo after the apocalypse, and a small group of survivors… spend their days goofing off! In their own way, both of these series use an eccentric take on the post-apocalyptic genre to combine rollicking (if frequently black) humour with the intriguing and gripping mystery of how the apocalypse came to be. I can recommend each one on its own merits, and especially if you like the other.

Spirite and Chikyuu no Houkago takes place in a fictional world where anything is possible. In fact, the world the main characters once knew changes to something beyond their imagination. Both series also contains a lot of mysteries regarding the many events from the past. There are also some subtle survival themes (more so in Spirte). Recommended for fans of post-apocalyptic world fiction.

Well, apparently these black scary monsters invade earth regularly, here's one set it the 20th (perhaps) and one contemporary. In both manga there's a calm and peaceful existence until those pesky monster arrive and eat everyone. Kuro is way better though, but Chikyuu no Houkago is perhaps a bit funnier.
