Suimei and two of his best friends find themselves mysteriously summoned to another world. There's a cute princess, magic galore, a Demon Lord that needs to be defeated, and a world that needs to be saved—the works! Too bad Suimei isn't interested. His friends are all too ready to play the parts of heroes, but Suimei just wants to get home. He has an advantage as a magician... but he's in for a rude awakening when he finds out what actually passes for magic in these parts.
ok first warning in advance as this is the first review i am writing. i have read many light novels but this is the first review. also spoiler alert.
man now this is a great light novel. At first glance anyone would think that it is just another one of those shitty isekai genre novel with mc who at first refuses t fight the demon king but in the end is the one who defeats him and along the way builds his own harem. i just started reading it for a way to kill time, but man i got so hooked up on it. the character
development is just totally great and awesome. the story is the same as in other isekai genre about getting summoned to another world and has to fight the demon lord as the hero, but the story is not pointed towards the hero himself but towards his best who was just dragged in the summoning and refuses to help the hero in fighting against the demon king and as always, the best friend is like the overpowered god in that world, being a magician already from his original world and finds that the magic in the summoned world as a serious joke. well he sure builds his harem while on journey to find a way home. but what makes it different from other isekai genre LN's is the character development. the character development is up top, giving a feel like this is an entire new genre though already read this isekai genre many times it just gives a different feel. and also there is not only one hero but 4 heroes in total. while the mc suimei is the overpowered god his companions are not be taken light of and plus there are more overpowered guys (probably 4) like suimei. the illustrstions are quite good but feels like they are too little. the reactions of the characters are too real though not as exact as what we would do but they too close to reality making it more enjoyable.
anyway it is great light novel totally worth giving your time for some good shit.
Just another hero summoning story, or is it? Review of Vol 1.
Story: A hero is summoned, but his two friends were pulled along with him. One of these friends is the actual main character, and that typical over-powered chick magnet. Instead of fighting, our main character wants to find a way to go home. Oh yeah, the Demon Lord is in a war with mankind blah blah blah...
Art: The art (especially the black'n white illustrations) are surprisingly good for such a mediocre story. Though the character designs ain't anything special.
Characters: Here is where I really want to complain... The Main Character is hiding from
his best friend (and the actual summoned hero) that he's the strongest mage in the world, kind of. Our man is also bipolar, with mood swings that makes it so exhausting to read. It's just feels childish and immature. It's like Kazuma from KonoSuba, but without the humor.
The Hero is a typical shounen manga hero, he's nice to everyone as well as handsome. There's not one single character personality that have any kind of originality to it. Oh, every guy in the story is super dense about romance.
Overall, it feels like a light novel fan tried to write his own story while being influenced by currently popular works. No originality to it with the Main Character, nor even the story. There are so many good original ideas, that this one just pales in comparison. (Reborn as a Vending Machine, So I'm a Spider, Smartphone, Mixed Bathing, all these are at least ORIGINAL!!)
I'm not saying this is a bad story, if you like Isekai stories in general, it might be an entertaining ride. But if you own many English licensed Light Novels, then this is similar to many others you've probably already read and there are much better options.
+ Nice Art
+ Cheap Volumes
- No Originality, and here are a few of the reasons
1: OP Main character
2: Dense MC
3: Neutral (not good nor evil) MC
4: Mood Swings, like an unstable mental patient
5: Harem (in the making)
6: Plain appearance, yet somehow popular
In the end, everyone has their own taste. Me, I'm just picky after reading almost every Light Novel licensed in English.
