Lotte has always been fascinated by the surface world, but mermaids are forbidden to ever have contact with humans. One day, she finds a handsome young man adrift in a shipwreck and takes him to shore.
More obsessed with the surface than ever, Lotte jumps at the chance to become human when a demon named J offers her a magic potion. But there's more to J's potion - and his intentions - than meets the eye...
This is not your little child’s fairy tale; the name itself gives it away. When it says Erotic, it really means so with sex happening in almost every chapter, full of passion to the occasional rape scenes… and yet the story felt like the sex was not fully forced within the main part of the story. Well not entirely anyway. Let me explain a bit more about the story so you can understand where I am coming from.
Lottie was a very innocent and naive mermaid who fell in love the moment she met the Prince Abel. After saving him, she meets a demon who
tells her that he has a way to turn her human but at a cost, she would have to consume something that mermaids don’t have or she would die… and this is where the erotic part is. It seems that that thing mermaids don’t have is life force and the only way to ‘consume’ it is to have sex. Saying this, you might be wondering why I said that the sex part was not fully forced within the story but trust me, it isn’t. If you took the word sex and replaced it with a more tame word like ‘kiss’ or even ‘touch’ then it wouldn’t be as erotic. It might not have as deep a meaning in this case, but it still could have been replaced.
For the first few chapters, my thoughts were that this was going to be the same as any other hentai style manga out there, or anime for that matter. They would have sex in the first three pages, and keep on having it over and over again without much of a character base to them. The prince would always be cold and uncaring as he used the young mermaid as a sex toy while she would become heartbroken since it wasn’t what she wanted. I even thought I knew exactly how it would end, that the mermaid would find he loved another and would kill herself, turning into sea foam like the original Little Mermaid story ended. I was pleasantly surprised in fact when I was proven wrong about all of that. The characters were very thought out and had reasons for their actions… all except J, the demon. He sadly seemed to be on the more mysterious side, with small hints that there was a reason he changed the story so much. He acted so much like a god playing around with the main characters hearts that I actually felt hate for him just as the main characters did.
I do have a problem with the story though; it goes a bit too long I think. So sure there was almost two stories that ended up merging into one, with the first half of the story about Lottie and Adel, and the second about Adel’s twin brother and another mermaid but it kind of felt like it was trying to stretch its length. With J manipulating the story so much, twisting and turning it, it felt like he was the author just turning it for his own sick and strange wants to make a long Hentai manga. This might be the longest hentai manga I have even read actually as its 36 chapters long. At the end of the first story though, I just kind of wanted it to end there even if it didn’t have a really happy ending (That’s as much spoiler as your getting there). The second half might have been icing on a nice story, but it was a bit thick of a layer.
The artwork is very beautiful and I am surprised how detailed it was. Now I read this on a website so I don’t know if they did this or it was like this in the manga but I was a bit happy that they only had more of a sugjestion of the sexual organs of both the men and women. To me, not showing all of what was there was actually rather pretty in that sense... ok, it was erotic too in that way but for me, the more you can let your mind picture what is happening, the more intreging it is. Everything else though was very highly detailed from the clothing to just the way a strand of hair was laying. I love how they designed it that way.
So now we come to the big question, what my thoughts really are about this. Well, It’s a lot better then a lot of manga I have read with sex being a big part of it, but it still goes on a little long. I think where the story shines is in the first part of the manga and if you just read that part, you could have a very full story (minus the part where J trys to keep it going). Still, the second half wasn’t all that bad but it might have been better if I didn’t read it at the same time as the first one. I feel like I would of liked it more if I waited a day, then read the second half. Worth the time to read, just might not be one to ‘marathon’ it even if it is short compared to many series out there… looking at you Bleach and Naruto.
I started reading this thinking im gonna just read some sligth smut story to kill time. It was not a slight smut story.
I like a nice mix of story and smut, more on story side. When i first began reading I was like "ugh what is this trash?" It started off as smut from the first page and the summary was just screaming smut. it seemed like one of those manga that i call "a smut with the plot of a hentai" in other words a lot of explicit erotic scenes that are not far away from low key hentai level and little to no
story. And it seemed like it would continue like that. The only reason i kept reading was that i loved the art which i would give a 9/10, other than that i didnt care too much about the story and contemplated just finishing it for the hell of it or to just quit. I choose the latter. Which led to shocking developements.
Characters develop more personality, you get to understand and sympathsize with them and their conflicts. Not to mention, Abel was hella fine.
The story actually takes a twist and evolves to more than just a smut fest. Dramatic story twists occured, keeping me hooked at the intriguing and dark plot twis. in the end, i can honestly say i enjoyed the series, thank you J.
Note: there are other erotic fairy tales if you want to read that came before this where J appears in all. I did not really know they are very loosely connected by this reoccuring character and read this first, this is the latest or last of the erotic tales
A mermaid (Lotte) longs to witness the humans and the world they live in but interacting with the human race is considered a taboo among their race and hence an iron-clad rule arose wherein; only when the mermaid reaches a particular age, she is allowed to rise to the surface of the ocean. Lotte, after fulfilling this condition rises to the surface and from then on the story takes a turn for both the good and the worse.
NOTE: The entire Erotic Fairy Tales series contains explicit scenes involving characters making love. Considering that the phrase 'erotic' is present, it should be expected but for those
who think otherwise, this is a timely reminder.
At a first glance, the story would seem to be a normal fairy tale transformed into the manga format but with the introduction of genuine erotica, things change a wee bit and provides us with good entertainment and a pretty nice storyline. At times, the story seemed to be dragging along just to fulfill the sensual pleasures and desires of the characters but other than that, this manga has got a normal but entertaining plot.
Considering that this manga has been drawn by a female, the art slightly inclines towards the shoujo side but still, the art was really nice and was well rendered. The backgrounds were well done and the sex scenes were pleasant to say the least although there are traces of NTR in the latter stages of the manga. No particular qualms regarding the art.
This is where the manga sometimes loses its plot. There are 3 main characters viz., Lotte, the mermaid; Abel, her human love and J, the demon who makes his obligatory experience in all of the Erotic series. His motive is still unknown but it is he who at times, singly changes the direction in which the story proceeds. Then there are 3 supporting characters viz., Deo, Abel's elder twin brother; Kaya, a woman who is beautiful but has maleficent behaviorisms and Nanami, who is a 'milk sibling' to the brothers and who takes care of Lotte.
Lotte is indecisive at times and always sheds tears which is somewhat irksome while Abel is not honest with himself and the misunderstandings between the trio of Lotte and the brothers causes some trouble which is predictable as and when it arises. J is the only interesting character who always provides timely twists in this tale.
Even if the characterization was only above-decent, there is a fair amount of romance and enjoyment which will definitely catch your eye. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and you guys can too, provided if you overcome some obvious change of direction in the storyline. The 'lovemaking' scenes were not over the top and absurd. It was normal at times and it can be felt that the characters were really in love with each other during those scenes rather than having sex motivated by lust, incest or immorality. The unyielding love between the 2 main characters and the romance between them was a joy to read.
Nice art, decent story, thorough enjoyment, above-decent characterization, good romance and above all, a nice dose of happy lovemaking combines together to give rise to the Mermaid-Princess saga of the Erotic series. This manga might not please everybody and it definitely will not be everybody's cup of tea. For those who like ecchi mixed with some authentic romance, this manga is worth a read.
