[Here Comes the Battle Angel!]
Noticing the names 'Yusuke Murata' and ‘ONE’ on this 57 page one-shot raises many readers' anticipations. They expect the same level of humor and action from One-Punch Man in this manga. And, as a previous reader, this one-shot provides the same great humor with adequate action. Everyone, who has read a previous work by ONE, should give this one-shot a chance.
STORY:
Daichi Oogami is a transfer student, who wants to have a normal school life. However, all the males students in his class have a different agenda. They have discovered that Himiko Natsuno is an angel and
...
is fighting demons by herself. Surprised by this discovery, they form a secret “fan club” and vow to never expose it. And now, they want Daichi to join this "fan club" and protect her identity. Meanwhile, Himiko, in actuality, wants the world to know that she’s a heroine of justice and wants to be pampered with over 7 billion fans. However, she is worried that she can’t protect them if they get involved in the conflict, and thus keeps it a secret.
The story is simple, short, and well-exceuted. It contains excellent humor in the form of funny dialogue. There is only one action scene and it isn’t very detailed, i.e. it doesn’t contain many punches or kicks, however it is awesome. Other memorable moments in this manga: how the demon was defeated is hilarious and how Himiko was chosen to be an angel is ironic.
CHARACTERS:
While having a good story is important, it’s more essential to have great characters. And sure enough, the characters, in this one-shot, are essential, for without them, the story wouldn’t be as good. There are two main characters: Himiko Natsuno and Daichi Oogami.
Himiko Natsuno is a cute high school student, who became a battle angel to fight demons. While, her actions and secrecy makes her appear selfless, she is actually quite selfish, reckless, and somewhat of an airhead. Her dialogue to certain situations are some of the funniest things I have read in a manga.
Daichi Oogami is a transfer student, who is a man of action and knows many martial arts styles. Like Himiko Natsuno, his dialogues combined with his expressionless face makes every conversation a real treat. In short, he is the straight man as he’s very blunt and straightforward in his delivery.
In summary, these two characters say some very funny stuff.
ART:
Drawn by the exceptional talented Yusuke Murata, this one-shot has some excellent drawings, both in terms of background and character design. The female character is noteworthy as she cute and lovely, especially when she wears that stunning armor and wields that big ass gun. The demons are ugly and creepy as hell. And every other character looks just as good. Overall, the art adds appeal to the story and characters.
ENJOYMENT:
Despite this manga being a one-shot, I thoroughly enjoyed it more than some actually manga series. It has an interesting story with funny and relatable characters, and the art is well-drawn and detailed. This is, in my opinion, one of the best one-shots', and should not be passed over by anybody.
