Gekkou is about the peculiar relationship between a cynical boy and a perfect girl. Said cynical boy is Nonomiya who spends day in day out in boredom, taking refuge from his dull life in his imagination. One fateful day, he happens upon the notebook of the much-rumored beauty Youko Tsukimori, neglected on the ground. Poking out from it is a scrap of paper with the unexpected title "Murder Recipe." His interest ignited, he immediately stuffs it into his pocket, only to find out the promising recipe contains nothing but scenarios that may or may not lead to deadly accidents, not even worthy of being called a plan. When he tentatively asks her about it the next day, she hasn't lost anything. But then her father dies. An accident...

Gekkou is an extremely short, 1 volume novel, its genre is a bit weird, it has mystery, it has romance, it has comedy but the selling point of this novel is described in the synopsis. The relationship between the two main character is indeed the main selling point and the best part of the novel.

Nonomiya is a peculiar MC, usually his type of character doesnt get the spotlight and Tsukimori compliments him perfectly and vice versa. Their conversations and interactions are the just the best and even after reading 3 times i found it enjoyable.

There is also some mystery elements to this story but ...

Is there such a thing as a perfect girl?

This is the question that our main character attempts to answer in Gekkou. He is cold, distant, and bored with the world, while she is kind, popular, and perfect in every way. He finds her utterly boring until he finds a "murder recipe" in her notebook. While the "murder recipe" itself is poorly planned and written, the fact that such a perfect girl was in possession of it interested our main. This interest skyrockets after her father dies in an accident exactly like one described in the "murder recipe".

Mixed Feelings
I am disappointed. I was very interested in this novel after reading reviews.

The beginning of the novella is really amazing. The intrigue, suspense, tangled relationships between people: all of which allowed me to read more than half the book in a day. A gripping detective story, overflowing with teenage feelings and romantic moments.
And it was all very promising until I was confronted with the ending.

At first I didn't even realize the book was over. So crumpled, ridiculous and illogical is the ending that destroys all the excitement of the first half.

thanks to the artist for the quality, beautiful art
