Preliminary Spoiler
Nov 21, 2014
I just recently started reading manga early last year and out of all of the ones I have read, this one by far is the ultimate best!
Knowing that a season 2 will be released I'm desperate for the storyline to follow the manga's. Tokyo ghoul is my most favourite anime & manga however the manga's ending really hit me deep. ------SPOILER------ When I finally reached the last few chapters I expected Kaneki to kick ass and slay Arima but my dreams and hopes slashed down the bin. When Kaneki wasnt re healing I became worried asf and then Kaneki's eyes were no longer there ...

When I first decided to read the manga from it's first chapter release in 2011, I felt like it was going to become a excellent manga and it did. The thriller and suspense of the manga series had me exuberant in the fight scenes.
(Spoilers in Art section)

Story 9/10:
As much as I hope for Sui Ishida to continue the Tokyo Ghoul Manga, the story is unique in its own way. Although the thought of cannibalism and intense gore may refrain people from reading this, it scrutinizes the many details that people do not usually see in a Seinen/Psychological manga. The protagonist, Ken Kaneki is one of ...

Tokyo Ghoul is a very technical piece of manga literature. Very often, as a reader, you will struggle to keep track of all of the erratic inking, intense calligraphy, positioning of speech bubbles, and creative paneling. This is to say that TG is some of the most striking art you can find in modern mangas. Sui Ishida, whose skill may not yet match a Kentaro Miura, proved his potential during Tokyo Ghoul's initial run. Every page pops with hard blacks and stark whites, imprinting a consistent visual style that conveys the series' psychological brand of horror. It's obvious that Ishida paints greater detail in each ...

Just a heads up before reading, this review came from my anilist account, but i thought i would post it here as well

Setting
Tokyo Ghoul surprisingly enough is set in modern day Tokyo, where creatures with unknown origins known as Ghouls, plague the world and their only means of survival is consuming Humans as food. In response to the Ghouls, the Humans created an international organisation known as C.C.G, Commission of Counter Ghoul, who specialise in investigating and exterminating ghouls

Story
The plot of Tokyo Ghoul without entering spoiler territory, is basically about the young adult Kaneki (18-19yrs) whom after experiencing an unfortunate turn of events is ...

This review is spoiler-free.

One thing I must say, THIS IS A GOOD MANGA, WORTH READING AND REREADING. Although it seems a little boring at first, it turns out really interesting. In my humble opinion, Tokyo Ghoul demands a patient reader.

Story: 8

it is just as complicated as it needs to be, or a little more. Ishida Sui hates plot holes from what I see. Also the psychological part of the story is detailed and quite interesting, and it doesn't involve just the protagonist, it involves many other characters with their various twisted personalities. I liked the fact that Ishida uses Tarot Cards meanings. This is why ...

Tokyo Ghoul Review

Story (10/10) Outstanding

The story for Tokyo Ghoul is quite outstanding especially compared to it's anime counterpart. I'm glad I took the time to sit down and read this the mangaka behind this knows how to latch a outstanding story together. Although at some points it can get a bit overwhelming with the introduction of characters it's not too hard to follow. The struggles and undertone messages that this manga brings to the table is definitely within the same realm as another series I adore called Parasyte and after reading this I do think this is better than Parasyte, it takes the overall plot ...

Story - 9
In the world of Tokyo Ghoul, there exists beings known as ghouls, who look just like any human being but instead of human diet, they consume human flesh to obtain nutrition. Tokyo Ghoul has three main focuses: one on human beliefs and two on ghouls (to dominate, or to coexist). There is no true justice, as all sides have problems and the story makes it clear that there won't be a happy ending - the adventure is a tragic one. The story deals with discrimination and how it works - what it supports, opposes, and contradicts. Though with a slow start, Tokyo Ghoul ...

Tokyo Ghoul:Re is the sequel so after you've read this masterpiece of a manga, read the sequel.

Now, one word that describes the manga. Addicting.

The first time I read the manga was after watching Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul Root A (both sort of follow this manga). All I got to say is, why does the anime leave out so many things?. There is an UNBELIEVABLE amount of stuff here that was left out from the anime, so if you want to start off where you ended the anime, don't. Start all over again.

Now, for the review. Best manga I've read so far. ...

Mixed Feelings
I started Tokyo Ghoul because I was very intrigued with the concept. A human teen becomes a ghoul, thanks to a botched organ transplant, and can only feed on human flesh, or starve.

Huh, interesting.

The early volumes had me enthralled, learning how the protagonist would learn to live with this ailment, and even embrace it, was fascinating. His evolution in perspective on ghouls, and society was exceedingly entertaining.

I loved how creepy it could be, and the way the art style made you empathize with the characters.

However, right around the midway point, the story begins to bog down in long fight scenes, that ...

Well.. Well.. Tokyo Ghoul. If i have to rate the series overall the score would be 9. Let's begin with the story. It's about Ghouls who only can feed of humans to survive. The main character Kaneki Ken's fate changes when he meets the bookworm Rize. From being human to half Ghoul. Is he Ghoul or is he human? He is the only one who can live in both worlds.
The story have two big questions:
If I eat some human necessarily to satisfy my hunger, am I wrong?
If I kill someone to prevent them from eating my species, am I wrong?

The art is very good. ...

Preliminary (105/144 chp)
I thought I was going to have a bad impression about Tokyo Ghoul because of the gore and others, turns out I was wrong. This manga was amazing.

Story : Ghouls are humans that eat another human in order to survive and live. Technically, since they are cannibals, they are different from humans. Really? When I first read the manga, I thought ghouls were disgusting and such, but the mangaka showed me--us the "human" side of ghoul. Ghouls are able to have family, to love, to protect, to socialize, to feel like a real human being, even though they ate other humans. That's one of the ...

This manga and the sequel of it is the only manga that I have ever completed that deserves a review. I will start off by saying this... you have to re-read this at least 5 times to see how this masterpiece is so well done by the author (and the only person working on the manga) Ishida Sui.

Story: 10. Tokyo is being terrorized by these "ghouls", which look and act like human with other humans, but they only can survive off human flesh. A boy named Ken Kaneki is just a fragile college freshman who one day, like many other days before, goes to ...

This is my first review, therefore I shall make it short:

I have never heard of tokyo ghoul until I have watch the anime, being impatient as one of my characteristic, I started reading the manga ( I'm more of a reader anyway.) and I was instantly hooked with it and formed an attachment to the main character Kaneki.

Kaneki is probably one of the characters that I like and had an attachment and was devastated at the end. ( there is a sequel but i put in on hold because I don't want waiting and it destroys my excitement.)

So all in all, it was a ...

Mixed Feelings
Misleading characterisation leads to an underwhelming read.
A solid beginning leads to a jumbled up end.

Overall rating: 6/10 (not bad but also not good)
Re-readable rating: 2/5 (just the first half of the story)

1- Shonen masquerading as Seinen
The biggest step this manga stumbles upon is setting expectations. When you're calling yourself Seinen, the reader expects some seinen. But what you get instead is a shonen turned to a more severe degree. It would have been more enjoyable if it was just called shonen and the reader was not left expecting for something more to happen.

2- Too many ideas, too little cohesion
The story starts off really ...

from my point is the story of tokyo ghoul is really interesting because there's no one to blame in here. For example why ghoul hate the CCG so much? many of them were parentless in such a young age. Their parents were killed just because they are "Ghoul". And many of this ghoul kid have to watch their parent dead in front of them self. If i become one this kid ghoul i will hunt the CCG down and kill all of them no matter what happen to me. But the some the bad ghoul also kill human just because it's funny or for entertaiment ...

To best describe the what kind of series this is Im going to use the following quote from the Main Character "Im not the protagonist of a book or anything......Im just a normal college student who likes to read but If I were to write a book of me as the main character It would be a tragedy"

If you ever have seen tragedies such as Macbeth the main character is known as the tragic hero who gets changed by an event that ultimately leads to his demise. As likely my favorite Manga Tokyo Ghoul is true to being a tragedy to its core elements. Just ...
Aug 20, 2018
A really well written and well structured tragedy, with perhaps the best female characters in any manga I've read. Kaneki is a relatable and likeable, yet very flawed, MC, and he works as a deconstruction of a heroic sacrificial character. Amon, Suzuya, and Touka also have fantastic arcs, and the paralleling and foiling is top-notch. The story is disturbing and dark, but the darkness makes the beauty in it shine all the brighter. The last arc is absolutely gut-wrenching, and very cathartic despite being tragic.

The art steadily improves, and the writing quality never drops. The only thing that holds it back is that it ...

Tokyo Ghoul - truly a masterpiece!
It's safe to say this is one of the best manga out there. And for good reasons too!

[Story-10/10]
While it can start a little slow or not have the most original concept at first look it definitely picks up after a while. The story is executed in such an interesting way that it surely catches up to you. These monsters or ghouls - Where did they come from? Can they really be stopped? Is anyone among us one of them craving for human flesh? There are 4 types of these monsters each with their special traits, strong and weak points. But ...

If you are reading this review regarding all the comments about the anime completely selling the story of the manga. Listen to those comments. I believed the anime was good, but after reading this it was 10x better, it goes a lot more in-depth to each characters backstory, which is very important for a story like this regarding grief, and the things that cause each character to do what they do in the world filled with ghouls. Revenge? Just trying to survive? There's many characters with these ideas behind their actions, but Kaneki as a human turned ghoul trying to become a balance between the ...

with berserk this is my fav manga, I starter watching the anime when i had 12 years and holy the scene when Kaneki bets the crap out of Nishiki traumatized me, but I started loving the series. When i talked some ppl about the anime when I was a bit older everyone would just say oh the anime is sht go and read the manga and now that i had the money to buy not only Tokyo ghoul but the Re series too was the best decision ever made. the story was a bit rushed at the end specially but Ishida had some problems ...
