Synopsis

Of the major causes causing the collapse of modern medical care, the lack of anesthesiologists is most severe. At times serious and at times comical, this story of university hospital anesthesiologist Hanaoka Hanako realistically depicts her every day work and life. As an anesthesiologist, I have never felt more well-represented by a piece of media.

I did not have high expectations when I picked up this manga, but so far it is actually a very good representation of what my job is actually like. The medical parts are fairly accurately represented (better than any TV drama); even the doses and procedures are correct. It is cool to see that anesthesiologists in Japan have the same complaints about the job -- the hours are long, there are no breaks for food, surgeons blame us for everything etc. I am looking forward to reading the rest.
