I wouldn't describe myself as a manga reader. In fact the only ones I've ever read was naruto and attack on titan ( Read them because I was tired of waiting for the anime episodes). So akame ga kill was the first manga I chose to read seriously and i couldn't have made a better choice (I may have even chosen the best).
I finished 15 chapters in 3 days, my eyes was swollen from crying while I was reading the last chapter.
Everything started with a typical manga/anime main character ( Passionate, never changing happy-go-lucky guy with a dream ) So I thought to myself ...

Story:
Amazing! The story is something you can't just forget about. All the detail and love put into this makes for a hell of a lot of fun. A classic rebellion vs a corrupt Central power that seems unstoppable. This sounds a lot like many other stories, but the action, and emotion put into this makes a thrill ride from start to end. You never know what could happen next so your on the edge reading until its over. (10)

When I started this manga series I was kind of just looked the name kill!on its title and I was like oah! Action! Lets take a look and...well I spend the whole day reading every word of this...and then I was angry I had plans for that day :(

Art 8/10
I'm not a person of the fine arts (as we call them :p) but from the few manga that I have read I think the art matches this kind of manga .Its not quite detailed but u ... can feel the speed and understand what's happening easily when characters fight, simple and awesome at the same time.it could be better I don't really can see how but I'm sure it can.

Story 9/10
Easy to follow,understandable and surprisingly too enjoyable for a manga. Drama, risk,death,life,power everything is real in this story which is rare among original manga stories.A quild of assassins and an army of rebels vs the protectors of the kingdom that's the main rivals of this story. there are no good sides only evil, but if doing evil things for a better future makes you the good guy in manga then the assassins are the good guys here and they are trying to kill the tyrannical minister who rules the kingdom and the criminals of the capital.
Aside from the story of the characters we have also the story of the specials weapons that the characters are using to fight their intense battles. A sword which can kill with just scratching you,an armor that rises your physical performance and many more teigu(legendery weapons) which give to the story the final touch to become a masterpiece.
Negatives:well Tatsumi the main character seems a bit off sometimes his current self ist quite compatible with his backstory its like that he became a killer in the second chapter after a 10 minute talk with the leader of the nighto raido XD(Japanese) while also his life wanted to be an official and now he is a criminal.(not that I care :p)

Hmmmm this is hard teigus makes the character awesome but the characters alone arenothing special .They are well designed and their battle moves are good but that's it they don't have deep personalities or something too unique.But this is an Action manga so if the art is good the characters are good too everything else is of little importance

Well when you enjoy something you can't quit doing it and you may do it again. So this will take a 10/10 from me.This fine assassin who calls himself author of this work managed to make me read it rwice.

I first came across Akame ga Kiru (or Akame ga KILL) when I saw my brother reading it a while back then. I only pull it up much later and went on a marathon reading for about 12 hours (35 chapters), and boy, was I left with a deep impression for this title.

Story: 6
Yeah yeah screw the story. I give it a 6.
My impression for the story department is just “fine”. The story follows a pretty formulaic build up for the first few parts, here we see our MC got into trouble, betrayed, and then invited into Night Raid. Then the introductions of our Night ... raids members for the next consecutive chapters, up until the point where we witness the first DEATH among the Night Raids members (I won’t spoil hey). That is probably the part where the story seems to attract the most attention, at least for myself. Death does seem to play a big part in how the story is going to develop from now on, if my hunch ain’t wrong (we keep seeing the numbers counters of Night Raids and Jagers left). So if you are one who doesn’t mind death of a character, or has little attachment to one, this manga might be a choice for pick up.

Art: 8
Now let me put down a few notes here. The pilot chapter wasn’t exactly great in details, shadings or background but don’t let these put you off. It gets better. What really impress me in terms of this title’s art style is that it improves over the chapters! It’s pretty obvious if one pay attention to it. Another thing I’ll mentioned here as well is that while the art for first few parts of the story was heavy and detailed, it changes over the chapters as the story develops, for better or worse it’s your call here (I only notice the definite changes in drawing style when I reach the part where Tatsumi and Wave went on the tree monster hunting,).
At first the drawing style I can only describe it as being heavy. It was a little too dark with heavy shadings and background. Sometimes it makes it hard to read the fighting scenes without focusing your eye to make out where the arms/head or where the attack is, that is my only complaint here. However all these suit the story surprisingly well, with the gore theme to this title, bloods and swords (and of course dismembered bodies..), they were a nice fit. Continue onwards until chapter where (at least the part where it was noticeable for myself) Tatsumi and Wave were fighting the tree monster at mountain, I realized there were much less shading, more whites and the use of more screentones. This change make the fight a lot easier to read, it was clean while retaining the detailed characters drawing, but in return it may have lost the dark mood to the story.

Character: 9
Characters in this title is probably the one of the highlight, I love all the characters (except prime minister, and his lackeys and son perhaps). What is truly intriguing here is that while there were characters, collectively divided into 2 sides; Night Raid and Jagers; both opposing each other, there weren’t exactly a bad guy among these 2 (again, except for the prime minister). What is justified for one may not be for another, it’s about the narrow view and perspectives one could only see so much.
All the characters are interesting. We have a good-boy-at-heart Tatsumi, mischievous Leone, quiet but caring Akame, Tsundere Loli Mein, Rabac that keeps the team going, Susanoo the good bro and Najenda the handsome woman. All these characters are from the Night Raid, and what ties them together is their ability to kill and assassinate. The other members I’ll mention are Schere, Braht and Chelsea but I wouldn’t go into details for these three for now as to not spoil you anything important. They are the main anchors that moves the story afterall (though a little weak for Chelsea part, and a little distasteful).
What I mentioned so far are the members from Night Raid, but even Jager from the Imperial had amazing casts of interesting fellows. My favorite is Seryuu (crazy, pyscho that takes justice to the extreme end, well just try and notice her face when she’s fighting, it’s really awesome) and of course Esdese, a beautiful sadist even portrayed in her own name: “S”adist “desu”. To give you a little spoiler as to what spices up the enjoyment in reading Akame ga Kiru (after chapters 17), Esdese is the strongest woman in the empire, and shortly after fall flat in love with Tatsumi. It reminds me of Luffy and Boa Hancock from One Piece haha! This mismatched coupling, their mushy moments, I enjoyed every part of it. (FYI Esdese is taller than Tatsumi… and probably older as well) All but of course, they are from two different faction, and I believe there will be time when they must face off against each other, we’ll see.
So I love all the characters, all interesting and with unique design. The only part I’ll further address here is the way the girl’s face feature are drawn, especially the eyes. They are all pretty similar: take note of Akame, Mein, Esdese. If not for the recognizable hairstyle and physique, I’m thinking it may be hard to differentiate between them.

Enjoyment: 10
If anything, Akame ga Kiru is one manga that you can enjoy despite all the plot holes and disturbing development. I find myself enjoying looking forward as to see how the characters will develop from now on, rather than the story itself. For one, there isn’t much to say about the story, but the characters make it interesting. With the good arts and drawing it comes with, I say enjoyment you could find yourself in this manga is top notch. The best part about (for now, and for me) is TatsumixEsdese, the fighting, and deaths to some extent. I am aware that it’s disturbing how DEATHS would make a good manga, but hey it works for the first 2 night raid who died (I feel my heart dropped like hammer for the first death, and you know what that means to a manga that could incur such emotion).

Overall: 8
I’ve only read 35 chapters so far, so there are definitely more to add into account for what may occur from now on. One thing though is that the manga hasn’t lived true to its name yet, Akame ga Kiru (which may translates to Akame is Slashing or Slash! Akame, Akame = Scarlet eye). It seems to me that there may be more to be seen from Akame in the future, which is the one thing that has been bothering me for a while now since we have yet to see much development from her. I hope you may find this review helpful, and sorry for any mistakes in writing this (it’s my first review ^-^)

so i was saying this is one of the best dark fantasy stories you can read ,everything was good especially the ending , i was a huge fan of anime's ending so that ending everyone died except akame but otherwise the manga ending was a big different yeah some night raid memebers died but not all of em not at all its contrary the rest of em got happy ending and when it comes to the jaggers they all died except wave and korome and that was unexpected to me

( *face palm*) SO,if this is such a done before concept then why do people buy this like half priced items from walmart? you wanna know?i will tell you why!BECAUSE OF LEONES BOOBS!!!just kidding.No but for real,people buy this for the characters

Of all the manga and anime that I have read and watched I have found that Akame ga Kiru has been one of the most surprising and unpredictable. As such it should be noted that my overall score for this manga is NOT a final impression. At the moment my impression lies between the 7 and 8 range, however this is all subject to change as this manga is so damn unconventional that I honestly don't know what to think about it. With all that said let's get to my review.

Characters (9/10) -
As many reviews of ... this manga have stated, the characters of Akame ga Kiru are its best quality and because of this I felt it necessary to talk about them first. For anyone reading this review and wondering whether to read Akame ga Kiru or not it would be in your best interest to at least read this section. So here we go.
Tatsumi, our protagonist, is a bit more than your conventional shounen male. While in the beginning of the manga he shows all of the signs of being an idealistic youth striving to accomplish his goal for the betterment of this friends and family, he quickly learns that the world is not so benevolent and grows out of his ignorance accordingly. This depth makes Tastumi quite an interesting character (aside from his occasional humorous comments as the straight-man for much of the humor) for it allows him to grow even more with the dark fantasy-like genre of the manga. Yet, we must also note that this manga lies in a crossroad between the dark fantasy and battle genres and thus requires a seemingly strong protagonist. For this Tatsumi fills the role quite nicely as well. He is not too strong but certainly not weak either which provides him (out of all the characters in the manga thus far) the ability to grow in combat. In both manga and anime there aren't many protagonists whom have the characteristics to grow mentally, physically, and as a character as a whole, and while many authors attempt to mold their characters into ideal individuals from their less-than-ideal former selves it rarely seems to work and have impact. Tatsumi, in this regard, still has the capability to be molded and for this reason he is quite the likeable and unique protagonist. As for the rest of the characters of Akame ga Kiru I find myself with different impressions.
To be more exact I find myself not knowing WHAT these characters are going to do or HOW they are going to develop. This can be both infuriating and pleasant at the same time as the element of surprise still lurks within the manga. For instance, when looking at the title of this manga "Akame ga Kiru" one would expect that Akame is the title character and thus the heroine of the manga. And they would be wrong. Certainly when Akame is introduced she protrudes the presence of a heroine, but just as she does it slips away. I leave the first-time reader to delve more into the manga to see exactly what I mean in this regard. In mention of the heroine, in fact, I can't consider any of the female characters to be one including the antagonist Esdese. And this certainly is not bad as it allows the reader to become both equally and independently attached to the characters instead of expecting the cliché that the heroine and the protagonist always come to each others rescue which in turn allows them to become more intimately familiar with each other yet not to the point of full romance. However, I also find myself wondering what kind of positions these characters have in regards to the protagonist for these are also subject to change. They could have a relationship of mutual friendship, of mentorship, of humor, or of conflict yet any one of these could change into one of the other or to one of romance. Although I have been speaking of the female roles for this manga I do not mean to imply that this is a harem even when it seems to border it sometimes. There are quite a few strong male roles in the manga although they do not warrant any necessary attention as they don't change as sporadically as the female ones do.
Because these characters, both female and male, can change and act so randomly and because this manga has a very character-driven plotline, it, therefore, makes the plotline very unpredictable. And as we may infer the tone of a work from its setting and story, to have such a unpredictable plot as this makes the tone waver from a serious nature to more light-hearted one. And just as with the characters this can be both infuriating and pleasant at the same time.

Story (7/10) -
The story for Akame ga kiru is quite an interesting one, and unfortunately MAL has put a rather shitty and vague synopsis to outline it so I'm going to give the basic premise here:
Tatsumi is a young fighter skilled with the sword and, along with two other companions, ventures to the Capital to join the Imperial Army in hopes of earning money for his poor and downtrodden village. However, along the way the three get separated and Tatsumi is forced to go the rest of the way alone where upon reaching the Capital he finds it to be quite different from what he had expected.

Now I'm not going to elaborate any more on the premise or specifics of the storyline for I want to keep spoilers at a minimum. However, I will speak more on the tone of the manga for it can have quite an impact on the story and reader. As stated before, this manga is apart of the dark fantasy genre and as such the reader must be prepared for death, gore, violence, and other excessive content. As you might expect, this can cast a heavy tone over the manga, however I'm not going to exaggerate it as some other reviews might. This is not the darkest manga I have ever read nor is it the most goriest, violent, or otherwise littered with the most death. I have to give that one to Berserk at the moment. But it's dark enough to kill off main characters and cast a "Oh Shit" moment over the reader. However, this brings me back to my previous point with the characters and their unpredictability. The reader can become attached to the characters during the light-hearted moments of the manga and yet they will be killed off a few chapters from then. Rest assured though as every character's death is not as predictable as others despite the unpredictability of all the characters in general. Some have lived against my expectations and some have also died against them. Of course this makes for interesting development in the story and overall enjoyment; however, just with the characters, I find myself questioning what position the tone should be in and what the author really wants for the manga. For instance first-time readers will find that the first chapter has a very dark tone and may expect that the rest of the manga is like that. In my experience and personal opinion it is not. The first chapter has the darkest tone and the biggest "Oh Shit" moment compared to the rest of the manga from my point of view. In fact it almost seems as if the author has forgotten the tone of the first chapter and for the rest of the manga has attempted to mimic it. Nevertheless, the manga in general is very dark shaded with an occasional and pleasant light.
On a more minor note concerning the setting I have found myself sometimes questioning where the story has suddenly ended up from chapter-to-chapter. There could be a large and decisive battle that one might think will last a while and by the next chapter the plot has suddenly shifted somewhere else. I understand that since this is a monthly released manga the chapters can be a little un-sequential, however, it is still a bit alarming when the setting has suddenly changed with an allotted time that has passed. I encourage first-time readers to be aware of this.

Art (8/10) -
I'm not much of an artist so I can't quite comment on the techniques that the mangaka uses (though I suspect that most readers of this review wouldn't particularly care for that anyways), but I think it's pretty good. The mangaka is able to effectively depict character reactions from the most humorous to the most heart-breaking. He (?) is also able to depict battle scenes very well especially the gore. Although now that I think about it I don't find many characters spitting up blood like you would most commonly expect during battle scenes especially in the instances where they are mashed against walls and/or have limbs torn/cut off. That is just from the top of my head and I could be wrong there. However, in some cases the art impedes my understanding of what is currently happening whether from the lack of proper panel management, excessive font of the giseigo (onomatopoeia), or awkward angles. Of course this is an amateur's understanding of what's happening, but nevertheless it sometimes poses a concern.

Enjoyment (8/10) -
In general I found this manga to very enjoyable which is evident from the fact that I practically wasted yesterday reading through it all. Because of the unpredictable characters and plotline I found myself constantly wondering what will happen next and constantly kept reading through the chapters. As more chapters are released and the manga develops more I expect that my enjoyment will proportionally grow as well.

Overall (8/10) -
As stated in the beginning of this review I ask the reader to not take this overall score, or any of the other scores for that matter, too seriously as they are all obviously subjected to change. However, as it currently stands I would wager my score being in the 7 to 8 range but rounded out to being an 8 because Akame ga kiru is, indeed, a very good manga overall. No more no less.

"Akame ga Kill" is a unique senen manga. Not great, not fascinating - first of all, unique. In short "Akame ga Kill" is a gorgeous senen-Thriller with a simple story, but far from simple feed! If more then read on. I warn you, the review is quite large.

The plot is simple. He concludes, as the main character and his friends in some kind of fantasy world topple one villain for the sake of changing the country for the better. Seriously. In this whole story. Of course with its own twist, but the basics are simple.

Story [9/10]:
I don't want this review to be completely comparing the manga to the anime since I have now experienced both but oh man, this manga does such a great job of story telling that the anime completely misses out on. There is more detail, and I feel that all the characters and the plot as a whole is just so much more flushed out. This story is a grim one, main characters are not invincible like in other forms of media, and the story of justice in this dark fantasy world is done in a way that makes both sides seem evil at some ... points. There are many pieces of this anime that I feel have very human emotion. Night Raid, our main characters, they want justice for unspeakable evils that are achieved no matter the cost, their methods might not be agreeable but it is the lesser of two evils and The Capital certainly deserves it. However, The Jaegers are an interesting part of the anime because sometimes they can be the good guys in comparison to The Capital's extreme evil, despite operating under The Capital. The whole story is a tale of back and forth, good and wrong, justice and injustice, with lots of gore, death, and dark imagery that convey a beautiful story. Also the imperial arms, or teigu as they are called, are an important part to the narrative that give it a unique twist from simply being a story about two warring nations.

Art [9/10]:
Having never read a manga before I did not know what to expect in terms of how the art style may compare to the anime or if it is good looking standalone. I can say personally however that this manga has clear art that keeps you in the action and intensity of the scene without ever losing you, you never have to ask what is going on in the scene, you can tell if it is fast paced and exactly what punches, kicks, or sword slashes are being thrown. Another neat detail is how there are some colored pages which I enjoyed a lot, being able to see the characters in that way made the characters really pop out and be more meaningful from the art (I already knew what the characters looked liked from the anime but if you were to only read the manga then it is a real attention grabber to see colored pages).

Character [10/10]:
My favorite characters are easily Wave, Kurome, Akame, Lubbock, and Mine (in the anime I only really liked Lubbock but the characters in this manga are more flushed out and therefore have more detail and traits to them that make them more favorable to me in this form of Akame Ga Kill!). Every character has amazing aspects to them that give them such relatable goals, the bad guys aren't just evil to be evil, they have purpose and that is a good thing to entertain the reader and make the story more convincing. Bols is a menacing man but is secretly quite soft, Wave is very similar to Tatsumi and begins to notice The Capital's corruption over time, and many other examples. The only character that is mindlessly evil, and this actually plays perfectly into the story, is Esdeath, but I shouldn't spoil anything regarding her as she is the main antagonist in this narrative.

Enjoyment [9/10]:
Personally enjoyed this much more than the anime, but reading it also made me want to re-watch the anime, which I am currently doing. I figured that I would re-watch it to see how the two differentiate from one another, what details are in one but the not the other, and I had watched the anime so long ago that I could not really remember. I watched the anime before I had a MAL account and gave it a rating without truly thinking in depth about a review like this so I decided to give it another shot. However, I know that the anime does not compare to the manga at all, and the anime has a different ending because it was made before the manga had even finished. In this aspect I feel that the manga has a happier ending and one that leaves the audience much more satisfied. I think watching the anime is a fine experience but you definitely miss out on a much stronger and more concrete narrative that can be found in this set of 78 chapters (2 of the 80 are mini bonus short stories).

To be honest, I've been looking for an anime / manga that breaks the ordinary for a while. In Akame Ga Kill, the protagonist is a boy who joins a gang of assassins with a goal that we frame within the "Good". In addition, among his mates a beautiful girl stands out, Akame, whose name titles the manga. This approach is within the standard and does not provide anything new (and it does not have to be bad), the interesting point is the uncertainty that it creates in the reader in each combat. You don't know what's going to happen.

I had long eschewed this manga for irrational reasons. The MC seemed very boring to me and the premise was a typical one of imperialistic domination, which is nothing new. These are not necessarily reasons to turn down a manga, but I could not bring myself to be bothered to actually read it for the longest time.

I finally got around to chugging through the chapters within the last few days. I hate to admit that I was satisfied with how it went down. It isn't a super-good or magnificent work of originality. The ideas of special weapons and a Nazi-like government of evil experiments and ...

Although I am not very well adept in the troupes of shounen manga, I feel like this one stands out from most in two ways.
Many of the charatcers are fairly generic; theres a happy go lucky booze lover with big boobs, a pervert, a tsundere, a scatterbrain, a macho, a kuudere, and the main character is your pretty average opptimistic boy with loads of potential.
One of the reasons this does stand out is the plot. Most main characters' objective is something self beneficial, Luffy wants to get One Piece, Naruto wants to be Houkage, Gon wants to be a Hunter and find his dad, ...
