Kaito Kuroba, a normal teenage student whose father is often absent. When his father dies under mysterious circumstances, he is made aware of his father's secret identity; a famous international criminal known as International Criminal 1412: the Phantom Thief, and that he was murdered by a mysterious organization for refusing to aid them in retrieving the "Pandora Gem"; a mystical stone said to shed a "tear" during the passing of a particular comet (often called the 'Volley Comet'), the consumption of which bestows immortality. He vows to prevent the organization from gaining immortality, and assumes his father's identity as he begins his quest for the gem. His only clues as to the gem's location are that it glows red under the full moon and that it is a doublet: a gem hidden within a larger gem. Thus, it would have to be a relatively large one with a bizarre history, and always stored in a place that never receives moonlight. He thus researches and steals famous priceless gems with odd histories from incredibly well-defended areas, and always returns them after the very next full moon.
The adventures of Kaito Kid will mainly hold the interest of Detective Conan fans. It tells the story of who Kid really is behind the monocule. It explains his motives for stealing and makes Kid much more appealing as a character, and a lot goofier. Unfortunately, the story suffers from Aoyama's love for episodic writing and his art has not evolved to the level of Detective Conan yet, except in the last few chapters, which were obviously drawn after DC had already started. The story is on hiatus, and i have a sneaking suspicion that the end of Kid's search will be in Detective Conan
Because it was actually a NICE story, it had its own style of art, telling the story and it had its own pace.
Kaitou Kid was introduced in Detective Conan; never again to have an independent, non-affected story. It lost its charm, like it got confused of its direction.
You SEE it, it's actually visible like before and after pictures.
It set me off.
That's why I dropped it.
Up to that point, it was very enjoyable.
Kaitou Kid (which was NOT Phantom Kid until Detective Conan) is a secondary student who, in the beginning of the story, finds out that his deceased
father was actually Kaitou Kid. After that, through circumstances, he takes upon the title 'Kaitou Kid', quickly reaching headlines and goes from job to job stealing precious jewels.
His easy-going, considerate personality added flare to the story.
The art (pre-Detective Conan) was fair, not specific with details but it got the job done.
Considering all the above, it is your decision whether to read it or not; I guess I'm this disappointed because I had Great Expectations.
I've always thought that if you do not have something good to say you should not do a review on Myanimelist but many people do not seem to understand that, Magic Kaito is one of my favorite mangas so...
Let's start ╭( ･ㅂ･)و ̑̑ ˂ᵒ͜͡ᵏᵎ⁾✩
