The best alternative to this story would be The Knight and Her Emperor, there is an arc that's similar to this one but leads up to it better with the characters' relationships.

...
Bplot you'd think that he's the villain of the story, he has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, is completely obsessed with the female lead, threatens people, is rude to everyone around him regardless of rank or status, acts like a spoiled child, and frankly, he's a huge Yandere that he spends a lot of time considering self-harm, suicide, killing the people around her out of pure jealousy, amputation, and imprisonment just because she's not around.
However, it is written as if he's just a tragic hero anguishing over his lost love but non he literally has no redeeming qualities, because he feels like he is entitled to her. But if you really think about it for a minute, a mind-altering substance was used for them to have sex but he says that because he is a high-level mage it had no effect on him, so you can say it was like he drugged her.
