This manga is incredibly mid, so why am I still reading it? Everything about this show is unoriginal and the only original aspect it has (Kafka being in his 30's) is never utilized to its fullest potential, in fact, everything about this story isn't used to it's fullest potential. Nothing is original, but it actually has some redeeming qualities. The action is very fluid, intense, and gripping. The action scenes flow very well and it's very nice to look at. And there are some HYPE moments, I won't spoil, but the Director General Shinomiya plot point actually had me shook lmao.
This series isn't bad, but

7/10 Good, not great. Action is epic, but story seems to struggle being original when using a concept that isn't original.
FULL REVIEW: I really like this manga. It has all the right ingredients for your classic shounen. And that's what will hurt this manga if it continues down this path. We are now 37 chapters in, and while the story is good, it is still a very basic "I hate this, but then I became what I hate and will save the world" concept. We've seen it quite a bit recently. PROS: Characters are very likeable. MC isn't a child or teenager, but actually reaching his mid-30's which ... Mar 1, 2023
Pretty generic as far as "metamorphosis subgenre" shounen manga go. Typical the protagonist gets transformed into a half-human, half-*insert enemy here* and joins a force to fight said enemy. The main character is pretty funny, but the only thing he has over other shounen manga protags is that he's not a teenager. The rest of the characters don't really have any rememberable things about them that make them stick out, even in their designs.
Kaiju designs are super cool The fight scenes are easy to follow but they are lacking something. Overall it's a 6/10, it's okay but could definitely be better. Sep 26, 2021
I try my best to make Kaijuu 8-gou's review
If you are a fan of Shonen Jump manga type (the main character with unique power, character, and heroic) you will definitely like Kaijuu 8-gou. STORY 8/10 The story is good and well made. It has a clear and well-paced storyline, and also comedy twisted. Not too long or too short for each chapter. But for some mystery things, for me who has read it until 44 chapters, it has not much mystery. ART 8/10 I'm not an art expert, but for me, the art is good and clear. It has a lot of detail on the weapon and monster, and ... Jul 3, 2021
very solid manga. interesting story, i really like the art, characters are kinda stereotypical but it does not bother. if you are looking for a shounen with a bit of humour give it a try.
what bothered me reading it is how the story unfolds. it really seems to follow industrial guidelines and the plot is more or less predictable. as the state of story is right now ( chapter 38 was the last one i read ) it is hard for me to imagine how the author is going to move plot forward after chapter 100 without making it really repetitive. that said it was ... Okay I have readup to chapter 29, and it has been great for me. If you like monster/alien vs human story like kaiju and Godzilla, this is for you.
art: 9/10 As a gun nerd, I can see clearly the guns used in the manga is based on real-world gun, and I like it (modified Glock and rifle inspired by Sig Sauer MCX Virtus). yes, they are modified but look really clean and the art always detailed. Character: 10/10 The MC is really cool for me. Not Overpowered cool, but he started as a regular guy who fights for his friend while risking his life cool. The ... Apr 8, 2021
Something makes me unable to stop reading this ...
The characters aren't all unique, and the story felt a bit similar to one punch man's at the begining but as time goes on you get really attached to the characters and you're happy for every little progress they make to achieve their goal, and the chara design ... i just fell in love with it ... This manga's universe isn't quite as dark as i was excpetcing it to be (compared to chainsaw man), but the comic side is more present and it makes for a perfect combination (in my opinion). I would say that ... Dec 11, 2020
I've read 20 chapters of the manga and hence I am writing this review.
8 Kaijuu is synonymous with problems that are to the point and have a fast storyline. With a variety of unique characters, settings, conflicts, and good solutions, 8Kaijuu is very fresh for a shonen manga. Similar to the concept of One Punch Man and Jujutsu Kaisen stories, creepy apparitions are also often shown. Uniquely, the creepy appearance of the conflict in 8Kaijuu, changes drastically into silly things that make readers automatically think twice about reading the panel. Actually 8 Kaijuu has a simple word order but, almost the average word written is very meaningful for a ... Nov 20, 2021
Legit Garbage Manga
how in the world did this get this much hype when its literal trash mind you the art is good and thats just about it , this was released with people were craving generic flashy shounens like jjk, mha, and demon slayer that significantly boosted its popularity anyway back to the main points. STORY so the story starts off as this realistic dark story with a middle age man going through struggles of life which is name Kafka the protagonist for this story , so kafka's main character story is that he made a promise to her childhood friend Mina to be the ... ART :8/10 CHARACTER :8/10 ENJOYMENT :7/10 OVERALL :8/10 (STORY) It is good. I really enjoy reading it. I thought the chapter gonna be longer, but its fine. At first, I thought Ichikawa is the main character, I never thought a 32-year old guy that will be the main character. It kinda similar to 'Kijiya' from Zint, or maybe it just my thought. (ART) To me, the artstyle kinda looks similar to Boku no Hero's artstyle a ... Feb 17, 2022
When I first started reading this manga I was expecting your run of the mill Shonen with good art and an interesting concept but later on it has become something more. It shares a lot of similarities with Attack on Titan that being the world is being attacked by monsters and the protagonist gains the ability of these monsters to fight them.
You first think all of the enemies are going to be bland mindless kaiju who get beaten however this has been proven wrong with a kaiju not dying for over 40 chapters and becoming a bigger and bigger threat with a goal in ... Dec 7, 2022
I really don't understand all the hype about Kaiju8.
What got me to read it in the first place was the incredible covers' art design. The author nailed it with the character and colors. As for the first chapter, I was enjoying it until the end. We got to see a different and interesting set up. Not a hero, but a man cleaning the hero mess. I was kind of hyped, actually. And then... I got to the end of the chapter and all these good elements were put away. It became just one more story about a normal guy who got powers and now is the ... Oct 2, 2022
As everyone is already saying, Kaiju number 8 is not precisely the most innovative manga out there. It takes obvious inspiration from acclaimed series like Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen.
The most criticized aspect by the majority of reviewers is that the plot is mediocre at best, with a cast of characters that lacks charisma. I believe this to be true, but that's not the reason why I read this series. The plot is predictable, the characters uninspired and there's no real sense of worldbuilding. However, the main focus of Kaiju Number 8 is in the action scenes, and at that is ... Jun 27, 2022
I won't write anything overly long which I think highlights my issue with it. In that I actually don't have much to say. It's perfectly fine in every aspect. It's a fine story concept that is somewhat familiar. Good art, I suspect it's inspired by My Hero Academia. Character designs are very nice. But there's nothing that is hooking me to keep me going. I feel like the characters down to the world itself have done nothing to actually make me care for them. Even though a lot of them are cool in concept but it is very surface level. The story also might be

Kaiju n.8 starts off with an interesting premise and some fascinatingly peculiar elements, but quickly plunges into a pit of extreme mediocrity due to its inability of taking those original concepts in meaningful, interesting directions. Character designs are pretty charming and variegated, but everything else about them is tremendously unoriginal: a cast of Shonen archetypes that we've already seen thousand of times interacting with each other in unimaginative and repetitive ways, without a glimpse of originality. The setting and worldbuilding are pretty shallow as well, with a couple of cool ideas scattered here and there but nothing deep or used in ways that are imaginative

First ~40 chapters are quite good. MC has a goal, he overcomes hurdles, fights monsters. After that his presence diminishes somewhat, support cast start to get more time, and unfortunately it is always about same old monster-killing.
It feels like a story become just about monster-killing and nothing more. Lack of lore as to why these monsters even exist, why they attack, how humanity is not wiped out with such frequent and powerful attacks, as they usually happen in city limits, and how come they still did not figure out how to stop the attacks altogether. The situation in which characters exist feels too ... May 30, 2024
Knew about this manga for years but never got around to reading it, but when I watched the first couple of episodes of the anime I decided to pick it up. And wow must I say, this is one of the best, worst manga's I've ever read. The start is pretty engaging with small parts of story sprinkled in randomly that feels quite out of place? I don't know how to explain it but it feels as if parts of backstory were just thrown in for the sake of it. The arc where Kafka becomes a recruit is INCREDIBLY boring, he is a character that

Kaiju no.8 had an interesting premise . The Mc is a 30 year old hard working janitor in a world where Kaiju , giant monsters like Godzilla , Gamera and many other Tokusatsu icons that this manga pays homage to , run rampant and are taken down by the obligatory Defense Force . I thought that having the main character , who gets to transform into a monstorus hero , NOT being a part of the main organisation , and basically still being an underdog would be a breath of fresh air . But as soon as the second chapter passes , all that is

As of writing this review, there are 15 chapters out and I think there is definitely a lot of potential for this manga. The characters don't feel like they are designed around a cliche blueprint and they feel like they have more autonomy. The characters are allowed to make decisions, rather than doing what the plot demands of the character. In other words, they feel like real people with emotion. The manga doesn't try too hard to make a particular character a rival or the main character unnecessarily charismatic so we can relate to him and love him as we do with a lot of

At the time of writing this I've caught up to chapter 60, the latest released chapter.
Short answer: Kaiju 8 is a great series to read for your overall enjoyment. The story isn't as average as your usual shounen but it's quite more adapted to the point where you'd still want to binge read it. The art is insane and the characters are very intriguing. Overall enjoyment is a 10/10. Story: First off story. The story is quite simple as a man who aspires to be part of the Defense Force where he is trying to be on par with his childhood friend with who he had made ... |
