As everyone is already saying, Kaiju number 8 is not precisely the most innovative manga out there. It takes obvious inspiration from acclaimed series like Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen.

The most criticized aspect by the majority of reviewers is that the plot is mediocre at best, with a cast of characters that lacks charisma. I believe this to be true, but that's not the reason why I read this series. The plot is predictable, the characters uninspired and there's no real sense of worldbuilding. However, the main focus of Kaiju Number 8 is in the action scenes, and at that is a really good and fun reading. Almost every action chapter is hype as hell and that compensates the mediocre storyline. Moreover, the art style is bland when it comes to human designs but is real good with the monsters.

Kaiju Number 8 is not a series that will change your life, but it you doesn't matter that the plot is on a second plane and enjoy good action scenes it might be a fun experience.
