Synopsis

Schoolteacher Han Hana is afflicted with a certain family curse that has ruined every single one of her past relationships. The curse in question: whenever she kisses someone, she will turn into a dog every night. The only way to break free from the curse is to kiss the same person again as a dog.

To avoid this, Hana has kept her lips chaste her entire life. However, one drunken encounter with her coworker Jin Seon, who seems to hate her, turns her entire life upside down. Hana kisses him in her intoxicated confusion, causing her curse to surface. For Hana, who is a small and cute white dog, breaking the curse should be one simple kiss... but Seon is terrified of dogs?!

A Good Day to be a Dog could've been so much more. Upon stumbling about this webtoon and rereading the first 13 chapters continuously awaiting the next, I was immediately drawn into its setup. However, once the romance began, it sort of fell apart? After 20 chapters, I realized that Hana didn't really have a character. I honestly cannot describe her personality. Same with Seon Jin. None of the characters really have a goal except Bogum. While the main romance became just pure fluff with no development, Bogum's backstory really saved it all and he became my immediate favourite character of all time.

Despite how silly and non-serious the title sounds, A Good Day to Be a Dog is actually quite a well-written romance and fantasy-related story. It's honestly surprising that a writer inexperienced (and formerly hostile) in the romance writing field wrote this. All of the characters, especially Hana and Seon, are nicely developed with realistic personalities - even when they're still very slightly cliche and 2D-feeling. The story advances quite well, too, considering how simple the plot is. Seon and Hana actually get to know and fall for each other at a good and reasonable pace, reflecting realistic paces in romance instead of the popular quick read more

My friend had been recommending this series to me for ages and when I finally started reading it I was hooked from the first episode. Although the series was quite comedic, it also allows the readers to watch as the characters grow and accept each other. I loved the way that Lee Hay (the author) didn't make it a cliche romance with 2 love interests, but an intertwined romance that had been going on for generations.

Furthermore it allows a lot of people to relate to the struggles of relationships and growing up, even if you don't have a curse that turns you into a read more

"A good day to be a dog" is fundamentally a tried and true formula for romance stories, but infused with enough novelty to pique interest and win affection. It certainly crams quite a number of story arcs into its run. It's a shame none of them end up being truly exemplary.

So while my good will was quite high for this story in it's formative stage, I did find myself depleted by the end. I wanted to like it more than I actually did. The romance didn't pop enough when it got off the ground. When it was inevitably threatened in a rather half-hearted way, the read more
