While I do not think Umineko-sou Days is perfect, I personally am willing to look over many flaws to enjoy it for being such a different kind of Yuri manga.

The main characters are both adults, one a teacher who moved from Tokyo to the countryside and the other is the owner/manager of the inn where she moves in.
The two of them care together for the manager's 3 year old niece (adorable!) and a middle school girl that sort-of lives at the inn as well. For the most part the story focuses on the unusual family the four of them form.

If the story were simply about ... this and nothing more, I think this manga would be amazing. Unfortunately, there are some additional elements, that I personally think only take away from the core story, only adding pointless conflict.


If you are interested in reading some different Yuri from the typical high-school romance, I recommend you give Uminek-sou Days a chance.

First of all. I'm very glad that GL creators are still making and publishing their works even though the current world's situation is tough for everyone so when I found this I was glad because it's a GL Slice of Life. I liked that the main couple was sweet but still had the right amount of angst, it's short so I won't be too harsh on the pacing but it really was rushed. I do love a good "starting fresh" story so I enjoyed reading this.

However, I just strongly disliked the side characters/couple and their story. I was really hoping that ... maybe they're not actually related even though I already felt uncomfortable with their story because they grew up together OR that they'd come to their senses after the other kid left but that they'd still continue to be friends but that never happened.

I feel like I would have rated this higher if it wasn't for that. I was really looking forward to this one because I read Kodama Naoko's previous work and I liked that one a lot, but I guess that was the outlier lol

I'm happy that Kodama is still writing yuri manga to this day. Saying that though, I see very little improvement over most of her previous work. The art is fine, not really anything bad. But the main problem is the story.

I'm also going to talk about the author here. Kodama writing is... usually bad. Her art is pretty good and from what I can tell she does it all by herself, but I feel like her story telling is barely getting any better. Shes someone whos work you can usually tell was made by them just by looking/reading it, and its not a good trope ... either. She mainly likes to write something along the lines of "lesbian sibling forcing herself on her straight sibling" and it gets old quick. Her best work "Oya ga Urusai node Kouhai (♀) to Gisou Kekkon Shitemita" is the only one that really deviates from this, and its the only one of her work that I would label as good. She also explained the same manga that she has "2 sides" but it feels like only 1 side is in her work except for in that manga. Her usual trope is one that I really dislike.

However, her usual trope is pushed to an extreme end here, with not only a lesbian forcing her on another girl, but also the girl is her half sister. I think she missed a great opportunity to "fix" her usual tropes with this one especially. The only characters I really "liked" was the hotel manager lady. The rest are either dumb or actual psychopaths. The main conflict of this series was that the mc lost her "boyfriend" to her best friend after her best friend got impregnated by him. However, around the halfway point, most of that conflict is lost because one, her best friend got a miscarriage, two, her best friend came to find her for literally no reason apart from making her life worse for no reason, and three, SHE ISN'T EVEN VILLAINIZED OR GIVEN ANY REDEMPTION, SHE HAS A BABY IN THE END WITH THE GUY AND IS APPARENTLY "FRIENDS" WITH HER AGAIN. The whole half-sister incest plot is also really stupid. You could've just made them friends, or hell even just make her parents die and make them NOT blood related.

I really want to see her improve her writing. She clearly has a talent for drawing yuri, and I don't think she has to write anything game changing like Bloom into You or Adachi and Shimamura if she doesn't have the time. But at the same time, I want to see her deviate from her usual tropes since people only really seem to remember her as the lady who write the same story like 3 times.
