I love this series. The series is very experimental and creative, has a lot of content with a normal setting pushed to unpredictable places. The comedy is absurd but rooted in normal seeming characters and has expressive art with lots of detail. There is a ton of variety and personality in the stories of the ensemble cast, with many connections between them all. The artwork is of a very high quality and is consistent, bringing a inventive imagination to a character interaction. There is a high level of energy in the events of the story, which is fairly simple and could be enjoyed by readers ... of different ages.

This manga conveys feeling and a character's perspective in a kind of literal and symbolic way, so it can be quite revealing about struggles that people have, of things that people take for granted. There is a heightened emotional logic to the absurdity. The visual style is very graphical and intricate, reminds me of Tintin's comic illustration for the backgrounds, tends towards having clean linework and being cute. This fits well with the Nichijou Series, but this time it's told with young and also older characters, which is relatable to a person's experience of life in living, leisure and work.

Perhaps this series is not the most challenging or relatable series, and won't be that interesting to those who are more sensible and prefer to think about detailed plots. The silliness and lack of predictability is the series strength, and won't fit everyone. It is accessible and clearly conveyed, which also could connect to people with a low reading comprehension, and the quality and detail can be appreciated by people who take their time looking deeper.

Nichijou is one of my favorite manga, as well as one of my all-time favorite anime, so I have to say it was a tough day for me when I finished all the Nichijou content I could find. Luckily, I managed to stumble across Arawi's newer work, CITY, and it has easily carried on Nichijou's legacy.

The absurd situations, ridiculous characters, and million-miles-a-second pacing of Nichijou are all present in CITY, and it all feels fresh thanks to the new setting. The characters themselves are refreshingly different too; instead of following what could have been a rehash of Yuuko/Mio/Mai and Hakase/Nano for the mains, we instead ... get a whole new cast of interesting and goofy characters than all interact with each other in different ways.

The setups are weird, the plot makes no sense, and the reactions are hilarious. This is the kind of manga Arawi excels at writing, and I recommend CITY to anyone who loves Nichijou or ridiculous comedy in general.

The surrealist humour of Nichijou is still present here but its not as random and absurd. Its actually way more chilled out and this gives a lot more space to develop and explore all the characters in the titular CITY, and there are so many of them. Arawi Keichii has a knack for creating lovable characters and his prowess is at full show here. It feels different from Nichijou in a way that it feels way more mature and personal this time around.
Its warm, wholesome and makes for a very easy and cozy read. I think its a must read for every Nichijou fan.
