I pretty much just finished the anime and have been scrolling through to find videos talking about it while I try to stop myself from crying any longer. And to my surprise no one seems to have made the same connection I have on what Takopi’s original sin was. Maybe it’s just so obvious it’s not worth mentioning or some other reason I’m not aware of, but I believe Takopi’s original sin is meant to parody Adam and Eve’s original sin.

While those two gaining knowledge of good and evil doomed all of humanity, Takopi’s ignorance of good and evil was the cause of all his problems and misunderstandings. His ignorance made him naive to the world’s cruelty, and like a newborn, he was unable to discern people’s intentions and could only make simplistic assumptions based on his shelter worldview. Even after experiencing the horror the other kids were exposed to, he still lacked the understanding, and was operating off of “this doesn’t feel good so it’s bad, and vice versa”. It’s pretty much shoved right in our faces when he asks azuma why he still cares for shizuka even despite the horrible things shes done. With his full memory, he had made up his mind by this point she was evil, but he was still conflicted because he has experienced her capacity for good, which mirrors his experience with marine who he believed to be good but having only experienced her capacity for cruelty.

I have a headache from the crying and I’m rambling, so sorry if this is hard to follow. But what I’m saying is, Takopi slightly understanding that humans have the capacity for both good and evil was what allowed him to take the best course of action. The kids still suffered no doubt, but it’s a better outcome for all parties involved. Everyone becomes a bit more aware of the complexities of human nature allowing them to open up more and understand how their good parts inform their bad parts and vice versa.

You're right with ur analysis of Takopii's Original Sin, but I dont think parody is the right word.

I've been pointing this out in different threads before, because the Christian allegory is obvious and I mean "in the face" obvious.
Btw, that's not what parody means.

Probably parable is what you mean. Or Allegory.

I never thought of this angle. in fact, the thought of Adam and Eve and innocence in comparison with this is a great angle that is making me realize a lot.
thanks for sharing!

It's also a parody of Doraemon

OP, I haven't read your full post. But given the English title includes the phrase original sin, you're onto something and it seems related as Takopi represents the innocent child untainted by sin while the children represents the fall.

I'm not sure if this is properly called a parody but you're onto something.

You're not wrong. The word genzai (原罪) specifically refers to the Adam and Eve original sin.
