Is the industry headed this way? no, it's not. it's somewhat ironic when you talk about "fans with tunnelvision" and "brains the size of peas" yet you don't see what is actually going on in the industry or take 5 seconds to really think about what it is you are saying. |
| No. Just because one type of anime is arguably more popular does not mean it will be the only type of anime created. There are different demographics of anime consumers, with different interests and different requirements. There will always be demand for those different types of show. Now, get into the creative side of things, and ask yourself would every anime writer or artist restrict themselves to that type of anime? What if they personally didn't care for it? If something's popular, we might see a few more attempts at those successful formulas in the marketplace, but not to the extent that you'd suggest. This season, we got like 60-70 new titles and how many of them were honestly Battle Shounen? Just because pop music is the most accessible, mainstream and popular genre of music, doesn't mean that every music listener is after the same thing, nor that it's the only type of music that musicians are creating. |

How would you feel about all new shows one day just being hyped up mainstream stuff? Even if that were the case there would still be plenty of older shows from the vast sea of anime to enjoy. Absolutely not LMAO There is a reason anime has multiple genres/themes/demographics, and that is because they all sell Now logically a series that has an audience of 1million won't get the same budget as one with 100million viewers, but those 1million are not going to be completely ignored |

| That is quite literally the opposite thing that has happened over the years lol. Today we literally have by far (and it'll only grow more) the biggest pool of available anime content (of practically any genre imaginable) there ever has been in history. People that disregard any show that isn't mega mainstream have always existed, the number of people that watch anime nowadays is just so exponentially higher that naturally a lot more people like that exist. Before the 2010s if you watched anime most likely than not you were REALLY into anime and it felt more like a niche thing (I wasn't into anime at that time so don't take this that much at face value). To conclude, I don't think there will be a point where only mainstream stuff of hyped anime will be the only available thing, quite the opposite actually. Some people have actually also mentioned that anime is basically just a means to promote the source material, which in fact I'm also surprised you didn't take into account. |

While I agree that disregarding something without watching it's not good, sometimes it's easy to tell if you will like something or not. For example, I skip most romance anime because I find them boring. If someone wants to go beyond the popular stuff, it is up to them. Mainstream anime alone don't offer enough content anyway, unless you care for like three or four genres or if you are casual. Also, Parasyte was never niche and one piece has been airing for almost 30 years. | Slice of life shows with pretty niche appeal are receiving very high budget adaptations like Ruri Rocks and Mono. Seems like producers can adapt any manga they like nowadays |
