I'm really enjoying the show but I wish Hiro's Cancer played a larger role in the story (or any role at all). At the moment it feels like a pointless addition, he was in crippling debt and that's a good enough reason for him to have given up on life. It barely comes up anymore and while I don't think drama a necessary in a show like this, if they weren't going to do anything with it they shouldn't have added it in the first place.

Be patient. His condition is bound to have a purpose in the story, even if it hasn’t been revealed yet. No writer would start with something that heavy and simply forget!

@FutoiOtaku I hope you're right, but there have been plenty of movies and TV shows where major plot points have been dropped.

I think you’re right as far as anime goes when the source material doesn’t deal with the plot point in question until a season or 2 later, and may not get continued that far. I hope this doesn’t happen here, I’m really enjoying the pacing so far but I don’t think the illness will have time to conclude in the remaining episodes this season.

I'm assuming it'll be more apparent later in the story, as he only has 2 years left and obviously things can't keep going on like this forever. Right now as I see it, it's far away, just in the back of my mind as I watch knowing that eventually he's just gonna die

We're like the fish they're baiting! We've took the bait and got hooked! Not gonna say I regret it though. But that's the point.

The wrong diagnosis move can always be pulled, as well as some magical treatment he and his friends could find somehow. Maybe he'll truly die in the last episode and it'll just feel kind of anticlimactic given how little importance the story has given to his cancer so far, but I wouldn't bet so surely on it like other people are already assuming.

Or maybe the plan was always for him to simply regain confidence throughout the story and coming to the conclusion in the last episode that he'll live the two remaining years of his life to the fullest with his friends.

Why the need for big drama? He is sick and eventually will die, but any of them could die anytime, that's life!

@nelcalb If you dead my original post then you would know that I said that this kind of show didn't need drama. However, they shouldn't have added it if it wasn't going to be used in some way

@SamuelPapprill as I understand it, the point of the anime is that even if he has this sickness he can still connect with people and enjoy day to day life without making it a big drama

@nelcalb I think making it cancer, and with it having a 2 year limit makes me think it would come up at some point. If they wanted to make it just about connecting with people then they should have used something else to drive him into a corner. An example being his entire family dies and he is inconsolable, his new friends are the ones that bring him out of his depression and it doesn't have the ticking time bomb issue.

Eh, it's probably gonna end up being a wrong diagnosis or something, there have been so little focus on that, that i can't even see it actually happening, and the dumb thing was i started watching this show cause of that reason, never seen many anime with a mc who has a sickness, but still enjoying this as a calming series and the animation is great too.

@TheSekiryuutei

This might be it, I hope. I was thinking he will have symptoms that will give him unbearable pain.

@Kantyash glad it's being addressed and it's being taken seriously. A cop out or a joke would be really bad
