For example like watching someone workout made you go to the gym or seeing someone play the guitar made you try to play it, or even try to get into a field of work.

Personally for me Saitama inspired me to workout and go to the gym

I think "How heavy are the dumbbells you lift?" got me interested in working out. For about two weeks, then I quit lmao. The girls make it look so fun, but it's not!

For a while, I was reading a lot of medical manga, and I thought it would be cool to be a doctor. But nah, I don't have the stamina or the passion for patients. Plus medical school is expensive, residents are paid like shit, and I wouldn't be a "real doctor" until like 30-something. Also I don't want to deal with insurance companies requiring prior authorizations or turning away patients because of money or lack of insurance. I've already seen how doctors treat folks with chronic illnesses. Also, my uncle was a doctor and he's kind of a dick who thinks he's smarter than everyone else. I don't want to be the type of person gets their empathy siphoned away in order to deal with deaths or rude patients. I also wouldn't want to be like those mean Tiktok nurses who insult their patients for "drug-seeking".

Maybe not that much as you'd expect but some animes especially when I was at middle school "inspired" me to drawing, by inspired I mean that there was a specific character whom I wanted to draw and done it or attempted to do it as I don't finish all of my drawings x)

I go out to sushi restaurants and bars more often, but it is mostly because I think sushi is healthier and tastes better than most hamburger joints in my area. Other than that, some anime have food porn that makes me go "well, I am hhungry for this, guess I will go out for this food I have seen".

There's this guy in a gym I used to go that watched anime as a sort of pre-workout. I was debating on whether I should tell him to go watch "How heavy are the dumbells you lift?", but then I remembered I'm not into making friends, plus he was mostly into shounen stuff. As for myself, I never needed anime to get off my ass. I'm kind of a massochist when it comes to the weight room. Pain feels nice.

On the other hand, Legend of the Galatic Heroes made me even more eager to delve into political theory, which is my main intellectual interest. In some weird ways, it also impacted in my academic life (for the good).

The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.

20 years ago i was even more motivated into my return to basketball (following a hiatus from 2000 to 2003) after watching Slam Dunk on italian MTV for the very first time. i went to the playground about every other day or multiple days in a row all summer long whether if alone or with some new friends from those months, usually in the morning or early afternoons, so i could return home in time and watch the episodes before dinner time. i was so naive and still sucked hard at playing, however... my basketball society accepted me back, but at the understandable condition that i would have trained only with the younger team of players born in 1988, 1989 and 1990 instead of the Under 18 squad (1986-1987) that should have been the right one. Whatever, this team is a family for me and never left since even if obviously, after i stopped playing for real, i had different roles for supporting it (a firm, or taking statistics and commenting the games for the internet page).

Anime is just entertainment, I can't expect life changing revelations coming from them; nonetheless I must give credit where credit is due.

For instance, Eizouken, Blue period and Bocchi the rock were much needed pats on my back. Samurai champloo had also a considerable influence on which kind of art I wanted to pursue.

Started following sumo after watching Hinomaruzumou. Wasn't expecting that, sumo had never interested me in the slightest but here we are.
"The problem with defining even an aspect of your personality by something that you like, is that criticism of that product appears to you to be criticism of you personally. I find it to be a very harmful attitude, [...] you can't rationally discuss a product because you've started to define yourself by its very existence."

I became interested in football after watching Captain Tsubasa since elementary school. After that, I play futsal as my main exercise in senior high school and university. Also I joined karate club for a short time after watching Ran in Detective Conan

Entertainment can give life changing revelations in my opinion, lots of anime promote political ideas and other types of behaviours

Alright this is gonna sound extremely condescending, so I hope you won't take it at heart.

If someone needs anime for life changing revelations then they haven't been exposed enough to... existence I guess? Like for instance some extremely sheltered people, a siddharta goutama kind of situation.
Granted, anime touch pretty much all sorts of subjects, and not everyone care enough to develop a deep opinion on everything on their own. Thus I don't really wanna bash too hard on people for never thinking about, say, hardships trans people face, until they watch blue period or something; but even then the need for anime to be interesting kinda clashes with having a deep discourse on those subjects.

TL;DR: if anime manage to provide life changing revelations to someone then I question their lives and suggest them to seriously develop those parts of their personality because anime won't

Yuru Camp didn't get me to go camping, but it did give me an idea of what it's like to go camping. Before that I hadn't even thought through it before.

And yes, it looks really neat.

I already liked drawing before I got into anime, however it made me take it much more seriously.

Anything GAR related makes me want to lift a weight.

How heavy are the dumbbells you lift? actually got me into bodybuilding lol. And I still keep at it. Lost a lot of weight thanks to it. One of the best decisions I've made.

A Hobby (Plastic Model Kits) did indeed inspire me towards OTAKUdom; back between 1989-ish/1993~1994-ish. a few of my earliest Mecha Models;

later on, -by the early-2000's- my very first Anime Character Doll, -and my dissatisfaction with her included clothing- inspired me to pick up Hand Sewing;

Needless to Say, i've come a Good Ways Along in my Crafts, in the 20+ years Since;

For now, it's mainly model kits (Gunpla or Plamo), but Birdie Wing despite being very over exaggerated makes me want to go back to learning golf. I don't have music talent to learn instruments, but I do admire people who can play them. I tried learning piano, but it required more energy and time than I had time for, so I "paused" on that. As for going to the gym I used to go, but stopped when 2020 hit for obvious reasons. I like to get back to it pretty soon.

Yesss, while a lot of them motivated me for different things, I'd say 'blue period' was one that particularly fueled me to get back to drawing and stuff when the pandemic was around and I still love it lol a whole lotttt at that ^^

Not everyone has the same life experiences, plenty of people are kinda sheltered or don't really care for things that don't affect them.

Also I don't  understand why so many say the "I'm not blank but blank" statement, just be condescending if you want to, it's the internet people are supposed to be more upfront and rude here lol

Same lol, though I followed the home training section at the end of each episode. About a week after the show ended, I stopped.

This is going to sound too harsh to some people, but people are influenced by anything everyday. It's the same as someone coming out as trans, they too are influenced by the media or the people around them just because others have had similar experiences as they are right now. Anime is not different.

I think it's a formula to point out understanding or constraint in expressing a controversial opinion or whatever, it's not that everything that comes before the but doesn't count.

I think that's precisely what I meant, then we fully agree

I agree we get influenced by anything, and in this broad regard anime is no different.
However the entertainment category is different from other media in that it generally tackles subject on a very surface level. There's very little entertainment value in, say, whether the suicide rate in the trans community is prevalently due to societal discrimination or if it's tied to gender dysphoria. Anime is extremely unlikely to delve deeply on this. You get my point: yes we're influenced by everything, but if people need anime to learn anything valuable then they should probably pick up a book or watch a few youtube lessons on the subject.
