The only two divorced protagonists I can think of are Yoji Itami from the Gate anime and Masami Kondo from KoiAme.

There's not that many, I guess. People prefer the first love to win, which makes sense for young people.

But sometimes the first love doesn't work out, and it takes the next romance (second, third, so on) before things hit right. Like the Mrs Doubtfire film - it was supposed to end with the exes back together, but it was changed to have the exes be friends because that was more realistic and respectful to existing divorcees.

Also divorce, in a positive way, means experience and maturity, of having survived a loss and keeping on going. That lesson could go around more.

The overwhelming majority of anime is made for kids, so of course you won't have too many divorced MCs.

There are two divorced characters in Ristorante Paradiso; Claudio, the person the main character is in love with, and Olga, the main character's mother who is remarried to the owner of the titular restaurant.

Not really, her character arc at the end of the show was very touching.

I guess it's better to leave the child than turn abusive against the child..

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Olga is a fairly kind person. Leaving her daughter behind was probably the hardest decision of her entire life, and she continually makes real effort to reconnect with her. The show makes it clear by the end that Olga loves her daughter very much.

And it should also be mentioned, Ristorante Paradiso is a story written for an adult audience, so there aren't really any "good" or "bad" characters in it. The whole cast is flawed in their own way.

A woman who leaves her kids for her own selfish reasons and sexual desires is an unforgivable person the kind of anime or Hollywood movie or novels etc don't matter..

That's the last thing I'll say as this is clearly going off topic..
So I am not responding to this after this post..
