I do find some interesting elements in Japanese Highschool from anime, such as school festival and maid cafes. I think that people engage in these activities would be so much fun.

I believe there are so much to add on, do you have other highschool culture in anime that you think it's interesting or you dislike them?

I find the power of the student council president very comically exaggerated and fun, they're like the minister of education beyond the principal's powers.

Yeah, sure, we should also emphasize the importance of Valentine, Golden Week, summer vacation, field trip, Christmas, New Year's Eve and White Valentine to the plot (and PLOT) in High School anime, since every animu in that department contains such elements.

I think those school festivals and field trips are usually the most entertaining things.

True. Student council president seems to be having the largest power among all students and he/she take care of other students in many ways in anime. I do think that it depends on how he/she use that power in anime to judge whether it's funny or not though.

I do think it's interesting how so many high school anime cultural festivals have it's girl characters participating in a maid cafe. Do they really do that in real life? Man, that seems weird.

Whether it's used for good or evil like in Kakegurui or Shimoneta, it always leads to over the top hilariously comical situations. Like how can this "elected individual" wield such tremendous power within the school.

Absolutely, tho it's one of the insanities that make the charm of the show and keep it fun and memorable.

Yep, they do. School festivals are similar to anime and do a bunch of different activities, competitions and people that live around the community attend the festivals.

What systems are you referring to? Highschool in general or the school clubs?

From someone who isn't Japanese like me, those activities look so much fun. I mean I did have clubs and all here where I used to go to school, but everything just looks way more fun in anime (because it's anime I know). But when I asked my Japanese friend, often school festivals aren't as free as anime portray them to be. Students are told to dress better because people from outside the school are coming in. Basically more restrictions.

That's kinda interesting, so do students have the opportunities to open shops or cafes like what we saw in anime then?

I enjoy this too. It's one of my favorite archetypes.

For festivals I like how the choices are always narrowed down to just cafe or haunted house, with very little else considered.

I thought narrow range of decisions are often being disliked, so are you interested in haunted house or cafe only?

Because I also see other things in anime school festivals, like fortune telling and cooking competitions.

I just think it's funny those are the two main cliches it always boils down to. Like half the school must be just cafes and haunted houses. I guess sometimes a class puts on a play too.

I like the fact that Japan romanticizes it's highschool life, as much as they do.
Even if the real thing is nowhere near as thrilling as it's made out to be in their anime. Still it warms my heart that to the Japanese it feels as thrilling as it is in the anime.
I personally like the clubs in anime, they take up time you can use for stuDYING and eat away at your free time. But they offer just as much as they take away.

oh the clubs, as in how the students themselves can determine the club's daily activities, the teachers being the sponsors and the variety of what you can choose, I found that pretty cool

They do open up stalls and do something like haunted house. But restrictions are in effect.

Also, he told me that adults can't just come in and enjoy the school festival. The school will ask for your name and check if you are related to the students there. So only relatives get to enjoy. I'm not sure if this is only at his school or it's the norm though.

I like the whole "let's go hang out on the roof of the school after hours" thing.
The whole idea of being able to get up there already seems unlikely, for mostly safety reasons; not just falling but the rooftop machinery and utilities on top of most public buildings wouldn't be appropriate for kids to be around. But it is very cool to see views off the building and has a neat vibe to it
