You're all wrong. It's from the director of Happy Sugar Life and writer of Chaos;Child and Steins;Gate. This is definitely going to be a mind trip and subversive show.

Yeah, there are a lot of subtle hints throughout the episode.

Look at the works the director did again, you're talking as if yhe director hasn't done an ecchi harem before.

He directed "My Girlfriend is Shobitch" which is a heavy harem ecchi series, and he also directed "Are You Lost?" which was a milder ecchi comedy series with yuri undertones.

How abt you include those series too, before you make outrageous statements saying this anime is going to turn into something similar to chaos child or happy sugar life.

Another weird thing I realized was that we see a random woman walking her dog when the MC first meets Amelia. He then again meets the same puppy when he meets Ilya, but this time the woman is conspicuously missing. We don't see her even the second time we see the puppy. The director must have done this on purpose right? Else, they wouldn't have animated that woman walking the puppy and the MC meeting the same puppy in the first place.

But well, even if this turns out to be just overthinking, the base show is still fun enough for me.

the script writer actually wrote for steins gate, so you might wanna skip this one

He has also worked on STEINS;GATE: My Darling’s Embrace, CHAOS;CHILD Love chu☆chu!! and Go! Go! Nippon!
Just because he participated in writing SciAdv works doesn't make him their author.

I made this thread when it was first announced in March because the running with toast scene in the PV and the original visual seemed too suspicious to me. Back then there was at least still an argument to be made that it really was just a generic harem romcom, but episode 1 made it clear there really is a major twist, and I think it’s important for people to realize that so that they know what to expect.

The opening sequence of him and the girl in some sort of digital space, the alarm clock glitching and showing a different time and date, the obviously suspicious AI fortune teller talking directly about main guy and the close up of the bunny robot thing during it, him not remembering things like his “friend”, where he sits or the big sakura tree, these are all hints as to what is really going on.

I’m looking forward to when the twist becomes the main focus so that we’re all on the same page about this show

I feel like 80% of y’all didn’t even watch the episode lol. Literally in opening scene the clock glitched then he “forgot” what his best friend looked like. Then the dude said wouldn’t it be weird if you found yourself in game. Idk man I think there’s some validity to the OP claims.

If they’re gonna “subvert” our expectations then at least make the first episode have a better hook. I don’t care if there’s some crazy twist when a majority of the episode will be cliche trash

It's intentionally supposed to be that way though, lol .. they're trying to lay it on as thick as possible. There's definitely a glitch in the system, lol

I guess I'll give it a chance since it's the first product completely written by Yasumoto Tooru (he was also a sole writer for two vns but the plot/ideas came from other people so I don't think those count)
It just rubs me the wrong way that people keep screaming "it's the Steins;Gate guy!" "it's the Chaos;Child guy!" even though he was just a sub writer for both (the main writers for them are Hayashi Naotaka and Umehara Eiji respectively and even then those two games are brainchildren of Shikura Chiyomaru)

If you’re put off by the teaser pv, it’s almost certainly not gonna be what the show will really by like. I’m sure it’s gonna try to pull a madoka and start off pretending to be an outdated romcom but then reveal some big psychological twist

Anime romcoms overall have been way different the past 5+ years, typically having less fan service and (imo) off-putting tropes. This pv uses the most outlandish tropes of the genre, and they’re doing that intentionally. They even have the girl running late with toast in her mouth. Nobody writes that nowadays unless they want the audience to be thinking of it as a trope. Since this isn’t a parody, it’s most likely setting up to subvert the genre.

The key visual doesn’t fit at all with what is shown in the pv or a romcom in general and matches more with the psychological genre. The hexagons on the sides are very telling too. Maybe he’s in a simulation without knowing, or there’s some kind of murder game, or who knows. But the discount chikorita on the stairs is probably this show’s kyubey or like the game mascot.

If it seems weird that an original anime coming out this year looks like it has the writing of a bad 00’s harem, then it should. They’re setting it up like that on purpose. Idk if it’ll be any good, but I would say don’t write this off just based on the pv.

Have to pull my hat here. OP made me watch the show in the first place. 🙌

Quite new here on MAL… Will all who gave the show a bad score/review after only 1-3 ep eventually come back and pick up what they left behind?

Probably not, ignorance pays off.

Specially considering some of the negative reviews clearly do not know or address the contents of this anime.

I guess we can also say that asahi was not chosen impartially but by ai herself as she wanted to stay with him
Also pretty much clear that during ep6 (magical girl stuff) , aoi eyes turned red for a moment , I guess she somehow change the program or she realized the reality of this world
Also ep7 where that side boy was hit by car felt wrong but I guess it was also aoi 's doing

It seems like that must have been on purpose indeed, to create a bigger contrast between the first part and the second part. Considering the amount of people who are put off by this, or dropped the series, it has proven to be a risky tactic, but for those who endured the first episodes, there is a decent reward, I guess.

Good call, I myself went in blind, not expecting anything but a show similar to "Futoku no Guild" in terms of fan-service.

I stayed, despite the boring middle and I got the twist you were talking about, happy I stuck with it.
