If we're being completely honest, Kaguya-sama is not REALLY the #1 rated anime. This is the 3rd season of a series where most viewers who weren't interested in it already dropped it by now, so the rating will be, and obviously is, skewed because of that. If Kaguya-sama was all put under one entry, like FMA:B, LoGH, Hunter x Hunter, this wouldn't be in the #1 spot. It's the same as later AoT seasons, Gintama the Final, and season 3 of Fruits Basket have all recently taken the #1 spot. Don't put so much weight into sequels that make it this high in rating, and look at the score of the base series for a more accurate rating and more realistic expectations.

I'm not saying I don't like Kaguya-sama, by any means. In fact, a good portion of my favorite anime aren't even rated an 8 on here. I'm just saying that from an objective standpoint, there's almost always a score increase in later sequels of popular anime (as long as they're done well, and not butchered like One Punch Man's second season). It's hard to say where this would actually land if Kaguya-sama were rated as one entry rather than seasonally, but it wouldn't be #1. Knowing that, just go into it with lesser expectations. It's a fun, cute romantic comedy with solid direction and production value.
