MAL should revamp the review system such that the top reviews have scores that are relatively close to the avg score, rather than have some annoying keyboard warrior jerk themselves off |

But of course nobody complains if those were at the top. For instance, here is the current top rated positive review 2021 is definitely a year that will be monopolized by Fantasy animes, and honestly, if most of them are like "Mushoku Tensei" I really don't mind. Competing with "Tensura S02" and "So I'm a Spider, So What?" Mushoku Tensei easily (in my opinion) outstands them with better character development and amazing art. They actually make you feel bad about the main character with his past life being so fucked up and seeing him in this new life overwhelming his fears gets you closer to the story. Something we can say other "Reincarnation" type animes definitely fail at. Definitely, this is the anime you should watch if you are into the Fantasy Genre! That's it. Super short and says nothing about the anime. And we can take another example. Here's the top rated positive review back when the show was still airing: According to many light novel readers, Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu will be one of the best isekai anime. I never read novels but i have high hopes for this anime. Btw there is 24 light novels so that is a lot of content for next seasons. Anime is produced by a new studio called "Studio Bind" and they have done an amazing job for now hope it stays this way (art 10/10). I like this anime cuz main character start from 0 (birth) and he is proggresing in every episode. Another isekai anime with Truck-kun xd Rly love this anime so far overall 9/10 Once again. Extremely short and says absolutely nothing about the anime. This was at the top of the reviews. And do you imagine someone complained then? |

After looking through a bunch of shows and looking at the reviews, I've figured out it's mostly the same people writing all the reviews. Many of them try to act like professional reviewers and their reviews are full of trite phrases and platitudes, and many of the others are just trolls. For some reason the trolls seem to get the most upvotes. It wouldn't surprise me if many of those upvotes are for less than legitimate accounts. The top reviews for this show are without a doubt written by trolls. |

But then botting/brigading happened as described in https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1495663, those reviews were replaced by the current 4 Preliminary or not is completely besides the point. The point is that people complain about negative reviews not talking about the anime itself. But then keep silent when the positive reviews do the exact same thing. Like I even mentioned. You didn't see any thread like this back when the show was still airing, where people voiced concern for how the top rated review didn't touch on the anime's content. And despite it being besides the point, I can add that the current top rated positive review, while marked as "preliminary", he has indeed finished the show as a whole. With the added comment: UPDATE 03/21/2021 8/10 The Show was Super good, definitely had my point that is the best fantasy anime (that is not a sequel) from this fall season, mal wants me to delete this old review so I can post a new one because yea we cant update episodes watched on reviews on mal, but I kinda don't want too. Which again. Does not go into the show at all. |

Isn't it the equivalent of Twitter cancel culture thingy? You get offended hence you and your friends rally and spam 1 star review. In any case, I base my enjoyment... on myself, not what some random salty guy says. Truth to be told, I never read a review before watching a show, only after, to see if it's true or not. Don't worry too much about it. 2nd season will be coming. |

all 4 top reviews are extremely low scores, each whining about 'muh pedophilia' before the 'read more' line. if you think this shit is organic and not full on botted by some loser(s) I don't know what to tell you. The review side of this site is a joke. As for the individual reviewers, they're retards. The new wave of moralfag compulsive hate watchers is a blight on anime discourse. Hopefully they all realize the anime industry doesn't give even the slightest fuck about them, is almost entirely composed of 'degenerates' or sympathizers and find another medium to moral crusade over. Hilarious seeing faggots with shows containing overt lolicon pandering rated highly clutch pearls over this one because it's harder for their cognitive dissonance to filter out. Also lmao astralbread is self hating lolicon who thinks kvetching about the stuff absolves him of his sins. Hilarious seeing people get behind him without realizing he's the exact pervert they're afraid of. his shoujo ramune avatar is an act of self flagellation. pathetic. |

A lot of people are discussing about the botting of reviews when it can be boiled down due to this series ending. Users flocked here to update their list and give it a rating, so there's a high chance that they are also looking at the reviews. Many people could've pressed helpful due to the review being a good representation of what they feel towards the show while others are just memeing. That does beg the question: Where are the helpful votes of the fans of the series? I'm sure that there are a lot of fans of this anime out there will push upvotes to those more accurate reviews especially when this has a 8.46 score as of the writing of this post. Again, there is a chance botting actually happened but without solid evidence, that goes kaput. |

The review order is stupid to begin with : new reviews should have some kind of exposure during 1 or 2 days at least, instead of the already upvoted ones. In fact the bots destroying this clunky system of some bad reviewers with several followers taking all the spotlight is maybe a good thing to force MAL to change the default display order to something else (random or whatever). |

Sir, we are discussing about the show or the anime itself not LNs. There's no reprecussions to be had with the MC in the anime, there was one with Sylphy but that went nowhere. Doesn't matter if it's real life or not since the guy most likely played a ton of RPGs in the time he was a recluse. Since RPG-like elements are like the backbone of this world's anime so people can understand it better, Rudy already had a massive boost in knowledge on what to do and what to train whether it is real life or not. |

He may know the basics of RPG etc. but experiencing it for real is different and it feels different because its real. And death in "real" life and in game is not the same experience. Have you seen his reaction when he for the first time saw someone die/be killed ? And then again at the end of the season when that kid died because of him ? This is not RPG. If he dies he is dead its not some forgiving fairy world. And its impossible to judge such a big show based on one short season. It would be stupid and too generic if he redeemed himself in span of few episodes and compeltely changed his behaviour. |

While I didn't like this anime, you should not judge the show according to reviewers. I think it's partially to do with how ecchi it is (while on MAL it wasn't tagged as such until yesterday). And the description totally misleads you in my opinion. I think the ones who loves this anime are either manga readers who read manga, so they have no reason to write a review, or those who did not watch so many anime, so they would not know how to write a proper review. Cause first season was pretty average compare to other shows like that. |

Who cares lol even if the overall rating is one its popular asf. Infact rivalling jujutsu kaisen in few japanese sites which is a super hit. Its novel was rank 1 throughout its run without an anime even above rezero which is humongous. Dont bother about haters and ratings. People have opinions people will hate but nothing can stop it. It will get more and more seasons and thats the only thing we fans want. |

Nagatsuki Tappei (ReZero): It goes without saying that "Mushoku Tensei" is interesting, but first of all, it's amazing that you were able to depict the life of one character, Rudy. People say that "CLANNAD" is life, but for me, "Mushoku Tensei" is life |

OK there is definitely something fishy going on in MAL especially the past season. Another winter show has been targeted with bots upvotes and this time it's blatant though in the opposite direction. Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki Kun had its 4 front page reviews as mostly negative including RebelPanda's being the highest one a day or two ago with 180 votes. But just in one day, reviews that gave the show 8 which had only 10-20 votes have suddenly climbed to the front page with above 200 votes. This is definitely not normal, as it has been already a few days since the show got over, and the number of reviews that over 200 votes is exactly 4 which is enough to replace the previous 4 negative reviews. Now, don't get me wrong, I liked Bottom-tier as well, and I actually agree with the positive reviews. But what I find wrong is that, there is a group of people or maybe even individuals, who are deciding what gets on the front page or not and they exist on both sides, and basically, its their opinion that's carrying weight in deciding which shows get positive reviews or negative reviews on the front page. |

At first I thought it was simply American SJWs practicing their usual cultural imperialism, ranting about "pedophilia", "woman abuse" etc., the usual stuff. Mushoku Tensei seems to be an extremely easy target for them, like other person said "a light for a moth". Of course, being a mob, they have no problem upvoting a review, brigading and so on. There is nothing new here, and I wouldn't worry much about it since Japanese production nor public give a shit. But as rdturbo just said, there might be more to it than this. |

This Anime Is Great And We All Know It's Great. When The Worst Thing Someone Can Say About Mushoku Is Basically. -"You Eat Subway?" "Jarrod Is A Pedophile And He Ate Subway!" "So That Obviously Means You Are Too."- Than I Tend Not To Care About Their Opinions However I Do Share The Concern Of How Those Being The Top Reviews May Affect Potential Fans. Whatever You Do Don't Tell These People About Usagi Drop They May Just Loose Their Minds... Also I See A Lot Of People Call This A Generic Power Fantasy. Did You Even Watch The Show? I Really Don't Feel Like You Did. If people use reviews and opinions to decide whether to watch a show or not, that's on them. Many people call it one as the MC is born with a ton of perks that was absolutely advantageous for him in the beginning: noble Blood, a massive affinity for magic, parents from the two types of fighters in this world to train him, handsome looks, a very mature mind that knows how the RPG-like fantasy world works from the very start (It's basically like knowing all the mechanics of a game at launch which makes you the most OP character at start due to that knowledge.) and most importantly, a world that does not punish things he was supposed to redeem himself and encourages his own desires which was not possible in his previous life. It does punish him. In light novel he had a lot of inner guilty thoughts and also when that kid from other group died. That was his mistake. He may know the basics of RPG etc. but experiencing it for real is different and it feels different because its real. And death in "real" life and in game is not the same experience. I know, but we were talking about how this anime is a generic wish fulfillment. Yes of course, you die when you are killed in this world but both you and I probably will already know that the MC won't die while the show is running. Shit you're right, it's definitely stupid and generic to fix the MC's fear of the outside world in a few episodes. I didn't know you can fix agrophobia, that the MC's prolly been having for 2 decades now, by just having a friend horseride you in town. I was just really looking for something or anything really to kickstart development, it could happen while the show is running. Remember, this is advertised as a "Redemption" show so one would expect something to be done with his "desires". 11 eps later and yeah. Its gonna be a long series and they plan to animate whole LN so we have a lot of eps till the end. He still had that fear even as Rudy for ages until Roxy "forced" him to ride with her out of his comfort zone. He didnt want to. Sometimes your friends have to force you to overcome your fears because you alone would be too scared to make that one step. And here is your "development" and redemption you have been asking for. Its might seem like a small thing but for his character its a big step. Thats why he think of Roxy as his goddess and savior because she saved him at that moment. Hmmm... I can see that, I liked that it isn't fully a "Dude, trust me." chacracter development like Paul. I would've liked more scenes about his agrophobia as it is after all one of the major obstacles he has to overcome himself. its beautiful fantasy anime. in my opinion it deserves rating 8-10 for sure. the world, characters, animation and music all is amazing and beautiful. Minus the controversial scenes, I would've given this show a 7-8. |
