I don't know if it is common in JRPG, but this is the second anime that I watch, the other being Bofuri, that a character gets skills by the environment they are in: gets poisoned for too long and survive? Poison resistance. Gets to travel long distance? Increased speed movement.

I wonder if there really is a game with such mechanics that are affected by the environment and not necessarily you spending skill points in a skill tree.

Well the Elder Scrolls games would come to mind in a way, wouldn't they? I mean there your skills level up with you using them - run a lot and Athleticism goes up, Jump a lot and Acrobatics goes up, etc.

This is something that is common for LitRPG stories. For example, in The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound, MC gains a skill for whatever he does, lol.
Mc: *farts*
System: Congratulations! You gained skill Fart Lvl 1!

But Morrowind and Oblivion only have a similar thing with Acrobatics, all the other skills are either acquired by a skill tree or through quests.

So I guess it isn't real even in JRPG, understandable, would be easy to exploit this feature early on, and it would probably demand too much from the game. Thanks!

Blue Magic in some Final Fantasy (FFIX Quina for example) has ablilty to learn your enemy's skills by getting hit.

Quina actually learn enemy skills by eating enemies when their health is low enough! I play this game 10 months ago and I still remember this mechanic! But the mechanic may varies for each installments!

Kingdom Come : Deliverance might interest you if that's what you're after. It's extremely hard but once you start getting good, you earn skills by just playing normally, apart from a few specific ones.

Strangely enough GTA V comes to mind, the more you do something the stronger you get in that area, if you run a lot your stamina increases etc.

Fallout, specifically New Vegas comes to mind.

You can naturally earn perks by consuming items, killing enemies, etc.

For example: Become crippled 50 times —> take 20% less limb damage.

I guess this is as close as I can get within the RPG genre, thanks!

Heroes of might & magic II is an old game franchise which only few game veterans remember by now. it has <eagle eye> skill which gives the player a chance to learn enemy spell used in batle. this is more fair IMO, you need to invest on a skill to learn other skills / magic spells (just like <consume> in tensei shiitara slime datta ken)

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey

But it's possibly the furthest thing from an RPG that's been mentioned here.
