I'm reading everywhere that this anime tackles Japan's problems with so-called 'xenophobia' and that there are some 'racist' japanese nationalist characters and stuff. Also the main characters are mixed race? If all this is true and it is indeed pushing a multiracialist anti-japanese agenda, then this sounds like a total shitshow and I think I might watch it for laughs.

Nothing wrong with attempting to comment on current social norms and outlooks towards foreigners. If that’s your sole reason for disliking the anime: it says more about you as a person than the anime.

That said this anime blows (not for attempting social commentary though, that should be commended)

What does it say about me as a person? That I have differing politics?

Cowboy bebop is "multiculturalism: the anime". This one is just shit that isn't even worth watching for laughs. It has its unintentionally funny moments like the explosion at ep 2 or mobility scooter legolas but they're few and far between.

The show only has one significant moment that is clearly pandering to social commentary, and even in this (admittedly blatant) moment it does not smack you over the head with pc-ness. To then bash the show for that attempt that, gives more of an impression of your character than the shows quality. Xenophobia is still a large problem and it’s nice to see that being addressed.

That said, don’t watch the anime if you haven’t already, it is terrible: the story is horrible and doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be, the art appears to become progressively worse throughout the shows runtime, the writing is pure waffle (the characters somehow manage to keep talking and talking without actually saying anything outside of meaningless chatter or typical cliches) and the characters themselves are atrocious one dimensional (not to mention irritating) cookie cutter archetypes.

This. There are many great titles with diverse casts like Cowboy Bebop or Black Lagoon, where no body gives a damn about characters' backgrounds.
And if you want social commentary about Japan - look no further, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is here.

Japan Sinks is just a steamy pile of crap with a "Muh diverse!" sticker added in hope to make it appealing to at least certain demographics, because virtually evereyone else roasts this show.
