does anyone have experience with both ips and va panel? I heard ips panels have bad black levels and im not sure if it can effect anime in dark scenes or its completely irrelevant? because I think anime has direct colors and contrast is not going to change anything. I DONT CARE about video games and im not a gamer.

VA panels are trash, you're better off looking for a dumpster monitor so you can watch all the loli in 360p.

on a decently priced monitor both would do the job just fine. A high end IPS monitor most likely won't have bad black levels, and would have better colours than a VA panel - so if you have the money you might want to invest in one. it might not have as low response time/high refresh rate as a VA but since you don't play games that doesn't really matter

Thank you for explanation BZRKR.IPS sounds better to me.If anyone is reading this to find anwser, Actually i had a va panel but the monitor was faulty(screen flickering) so i had to return it, but while i had it, texts looked exteremly fuzzy! I did not kept it more than 1 day so i was not sure about the quality, and i thought the anime might look better on it but according to answers i guess not.

VA panels are usually cheaper than IPS panels when it comes to price and all other variables are same. VA panels have higher contrast ratio than IPS panels so you'll see deeper blacks and better colours however they suffer from higher response time so you'll see lots of ghosting (if you play lots of fast paced shooter games but that doesn't apply to you since you don't play games and current VA panels have better response time compared to old ones). IPS on the other hand have lower contrast ratios so the colours may look a bit washed off compared to VA though their response time is much better and you'll experience less ghosting.

Look washed off? This is first time i heard about it.Colors are really important to me.but i heard the ips ones have more accurate colors. I wish i could go out and see them for myself but there is no such store around the city i live in.

Most Ips have contrast ratios of 1000:1 where as VA panels can reach upto 3000:1 or 6000:1 . The colours on IPS panels maybe accurate but It won't look, quote on quote "rich" compared to VA.

I wouldn't worry too much about contrast ratio tbh. You probably had an old smartphone with an IPS LCD that had a ratio of 1000:1 and now your phone probably has an OLED display which has infinite:1 contrast ratio. It's not a mind-blowing difference.

The one big downside of IPS panels is actually the cost. Perhaps a dirt cheap IPS panel would look like shit compared to a decent VA one, but that's a general rule that if you want a good monitor (and you are paying attention to smaller things like accurate colour reproduction, etc.), you shouldn't really cheap out. I have a pair of Dell Ultrasharps which are no-frills, no-nonsense, not-cheap monitors that I don't have to worry about them spitting out retarded colours or other weird shit that would be a pain to troubleshoot.

I have an old monitor with a tn panel and colors look like shit but i dont hate the black levels on it at all.thanks, what do you think about 2016-2017 (asus ,lg, dell or others, not an unkown company) monitors? yeah they are 3-4 years old but still a Little more affordable(at least in where i live in).

yep, older models are totally fine. to put it in perspective, I bought a 2011 model in 2014 (which I still use now). If you wanna check out some reviews https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/ is a nice site but the reviews can be a bit technical and even I don't understand all of it.

@fietqudx You should not listen to @Saberforlife because that person is obviously clueless. VA panels are good for contrast while colours are mediocre and up. TN panels are fast and suffer from washed-out colours. IPS have great colour reproduction while their speed is in between VA's and TN's, latter being the fastest while the former is the slowest. Another thing with IPS panels is that they've great viewing angles. The best way to see a difference is to look at your TV(which is most likely an IPS) from an angle and do the same with your pc monitor. The monitor is probably equipped with a TN panel and you'll be able to see discolouration and general washed out pictures. There is also a problem with backlight bleed on IPS panels which can either be a major problem or not one at all. This you need to look on a product by product basis because as is the case with everything else some will be better than others. What you need to do is find a monitor you like and do a minor google search about its performance. In a few minutes, you'll know if it's worth the buy or not.

TLDR; IPS best colours - Perfect for editing and colour depending work (This is what you want if anime are your focus)
VA best contrast - Good for watching movies because of its great contrast
TN fastest - Good for gaming

To put it simply VA panels are a mix of TN and IPS ones. They get better blacks than both and colour reproduction better than that of a TN display but at the cost of speed which in turn produces a lot of ghosting.

My phone has an oled panel and our tv is qled which is an improved va panel. Videos on tv look really good but compared to my phone colors still look a little washed out,and i have never seen an ips one so i dont know how it looks and i was worried that an ips look even worse but i guess not! tbh i did not expect my question to get so many answers, thank you.

QLED is a different type of backlighting on which all three panels can be used. OLED on the other side is expensive but offers fantastic colours, best possible blacks because each led produces its own light and therefore removing the need for the backlight. They also have issues with burn-in.

If you want my honest recommendation then you ought to get yourself an IPS panel and call it a day.
