The word "triggered" was a term that seemed to originate from refering to people suffering from mental illnesses like PTSD, and how certain events and actions could "set them off" so to speak. It was then sort of dumbed down and redefined by the pampered social justice types that thought the world should cater to every negative feeling they have. But as of late, I've noticed this word being used by people to either get out of a debate or avoid one entirely. What happens is that if you get called "triggered", you suppossedly overreacted in some sense and the other person automatically wins. But using this term in a way to get out of and avoiding an argument entirely is quite pathetic in my opinion. What do you guys think? |

I just inquire as to how and why they think I'm triggered as clearly that would indicate that I'm emotionally enraged by the situation. Basically they can't do anything other than scream "UR TRIGGERED UR TRIGGERED I CAN'T EVEN TALK TO YOU ANYMORE THERE IS NO POINT." So I just tell them they are running away from the debate/discussion and that they lose and their opinion is shit tier and walk away. No point arguing with potatoes. |

This is why you don't waste your time with most debates, especially online. A massive portion of society don't possess the simple, rational thinking required to distinguish facts from their own ad hominem attacks. They somehow magically think they're "winning" by insulting you instead of tackling the topic at hand. |

Although I love many of the topics in discussions about social justice, I hate the discourse. It's full of ad hominem and mud-slinging. Yeah, I'm white, so what? Yeah, I criticized you, now you're calling me 'triggered'? I miss the enlightment era. |

Well people are either willing to discuss or they aren't. In most cases the best debates really are between friends. It makes it much harder to have an open discussion if you don't even like the other person - pretty tough to avoid ad hominem attacks. |

I love Christine "If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness." - Henry David Thoreau |

The problem is, the discourse of social justice is dominated mainly by women and blacks. Thus smaller groups - autists, mentally ill - are shoved aside.
