So after a bit of discussion, we're actually gonna do this: original "anime fantasy league" post on anime.miao.us, now on blogsuki. thanks Jason Miao!

For those of you familiar with Fantasy Sports, this event will be the same thing with an anime twist. For those less than familiar, basically players will be forming their own team by selecting anime from the upcoming season. The list of eligible anime will be posted shortly.

Once the teams are chosen, everyone sits back and watches their teams rack up points according to criteria that will be posted. You don't even need to watch the anime you've chosen.

For example, say we started this last fall season with the only criteria for winning points is 1 point for each user watching on MAL every week and 50 points if the anime gets licensed during the season.

If my team consists of Kanon and Death Note (assume both are active), and the stats follow as such:

Week 1:
Kanon, 10 users watching
Death Note, 25 users watching

Kanon wins 10 points, Death Note wins 25 points.
Your team has 35 points total.

Week 2:
Kanon, 35 users watching
Death Note, 40 users watching

Kanon wins 35, Death Note wins 40
Your team has 110 points total.

Week 3:
Kanon, 70 users watching
Death Note, 60 users watching
Viz Licenses Death Note

Kanon wins 70 points, Death Note wins 60 plus another 50 for license this week.
Your team has 290 points total.

...and this goes on for the next 14 or so weeks. That's the simplified version of this game. Click here for the Fall Season 2019 rules.

Of course, research is completely optional. You could always go for a gut choice when deciding your team. Hey, that strategy worked for the one who won the first season so it may work for you! On the other hand, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th position for that season had done their research. Which strategy shall you choose?

Hopefully we can have lots of fun with this. :)

Sounds interesting, although I really don't 100% get the point of doing this yet. Too bad I don't have time to participate in this, since from March 28th, 2007 onward is like the worst time for me, so have fun with this people! I hope it turns out well and that you all don't get into too many fist fights over some wheelings and dealings :P.

The point is really just to have fun predicting which anime will become popular. And there's no need to be active during the duration of this event. You can just set up your bracket once and let your anime rack up points, although it would be better if you switch out your anime with bench positions, but it's not necessary.

I don't really get how it works either. So the anime will be those from the upcoming season? How many anime on a team/bench?

My guess is that this is just betting on which anime will be the most succesful this next season. But the whole game seems to be quite........confusing. -_-

hmm...I didn't think this would be difficult to understand, but I'll edit the post and try to simplify things.

I decided that having benches this time makes things too complicated so I took that out to simplify things.

having no benches kinda limits the strategy. you're sure thats necessary wildebeest?

Ok it's perfectly clear to me now. So how and when do we post our contending brackets?

yea, I think at this point we gotta keep it simple. If this works though we'll definitely have benches next season.

Would we be allowed to swap at any point, one show for another? Or is that considered having a bench team?

Sounds like Fafarazzi, but for anime. :)

yea that was the idea for a bench team. if everyone seems to understand the point of a bench team and how a bench team works i could reconsider putting it back in...

I think I understand what is going on now. Wish I saw the simplified version before hitting the wiki. It was like a jet flying over head....you know it's passing you by....but the closer you get to it, the more of a headache you have.

Are you guys REALLY gonna be okay? What if 1,000...no 1million people sign up for it; I assume there is quite a bit of automation going on behind the scenes to give you guys such confidence, even if it were limited to registered members of MAL. Also, how is it going to be displayed? Each person's profile, forum format, whole other website, etc...

wildebeest0001 I have a sugestion.

Why not create an "avatar-like" award to give to the winner of the League. Something that says "Anime League 1st Edition Winner". So he/she could put on the profile page for e.g.

What do you think?

Well, if more than one of us want to make this avatar, someone could always make first place, then second place, and lastly third place, etc.

Yeah, why not make a contest out of it? Everyone just makes the pic, and the best one(s) gets the letters added ("First place Anime League 1st edition" or whatever) and are presented as prizes for the winners. ^^

I'd say the avatars are for the profile (in this case that is). It would be nice that if similar things would take place, people can have somthing like a prize shelf in their profile..........

My inicial idea was for these avatars to be used on the profiles only. not for use in the forums although people are free to use it in the forums if they want.

ince there are a few people that can make them perhaps we could use Kanashimi's or boursk's idea. Either that or nominating 1 person to make them per edition. But since the idea of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and participation avatar came up might be a little too much work for one person.

yeah, pehapps if this edition goes well Xinil can add a spot in everyone's profile to hold the awards. Something like we have on the characters favourites, a picture poping up when you move your cursor to the name.

I see, why not. I was thinking of adding a little button to the signature but I'm fine with User Profile avatars.

This was how I thought it could look like, still working on the size and design. (Just noticed the black border is missing on the right)

I don't think I'll have time to come up with these bigger pictures so I'm looking forward to see pictures by Kana?

I can make a few biggier pictures, but do you mean like big as in the SOL one in your profile or the ones we have in our signatures right now (260 by 105)?

An avatar-size picture wouldn't look that neat in the profile I think. I'd rather take one about the size of the SOL Logos I got. Maybe a tad smaller, that'd be the best I think.

Would be interesting to know that the others think about this.

I agree with Cyruz, 100 X 100 when you have all that space width wise on your profile seems like a waste. I don't mind have a 100 height, but width could be increased to 200 all the way to 400 since there's so much room.

well like I said, if there were to be more contests like these, people can make a little prize shelf in their profile. ^^

And obviously, you'd just place these avatars next to eachother. ;)

This is the first attempt at doing a Contest. I think we should wait and see how things go before we start thinking beyond that :).

[edit]: What we were talking about was a picture that shows you''re participating in the AFL.

Well that's true, but wouldn't it be better to take the future in consideration when taking decisions like this as well?

At the very least we know that if the fantasy leage'll be a success there will be another one for the next season.
And heck t here may be others who plan to make contests, like the thread about having a speed contest of anime watching or something............ >.> <,< >.>

Just throwing in my 2 cents......

well I was thinking of a "pop up" picture like we have on characters, and thus the avatar. but banners are also a good idea. I'll work on a few as well.

*sigh* A shame. This contest thing really confused me, so i didn't enter it.

And now i read that you didn't have to watch the anime you chose! Damn! Please have a Summer Season!

Yeah, we have a summer season. XD

I think this spring season is just a test round anyway. There's a couple of problems in FAL that need to be ironed out next season.

I am just really busy catching up with older anime before i can watch some new ones. The only spring season anime I'm watching is Lucky Star.

I'm cheering for you Crystal to win. Don't know why. I just feel like it. ^.^
