First off, who created Epsilon? She's very human. Her face and hair are different than any other robot shown thus far. I am so tired of Dr. Tenma. Evolution this and that is all he ever says! So he really wants robots to enslave humanity? He wants a robot to be king instead of even himself. He hasn't even tried to cyberize or turn himself into a robot. He just sucks. Dr. Wily of the Mega Man series is a far more interesting character than this guy.

As to this episode ... this has been done to death. Big misunderstood bad guy has a good heart, befriends little girl, and then dies. Basically they force us to feel something for a big monster and then kill him off to try and score emotion points with us. Also, when the kids cried out Atom over and over it reminded me of old Gamera movies with the kids crying out Gamera! over and over again. Annoying! I don't really like those kids. Even the OP is getting on my nerves at this point.

I'll give this just one more episode ... my hand is hovering over the "drop" button though!

This post is ridiculous. This is based on a 1965 manga story that basically predated the "tournament arcs" of modern shonens while unintentionally subverting them. It's not just about "BIG GUY ACTUALLY HAS A HEART OF GOLD", it's about the inexistence of inherent evil and the learned nature of hate and militarism. You could draw a parallel between Pluto and child soldiers, and I wouldn't say that's me going too far since Tezuka manga covered some EXTREMELY dark themes, even in Astro Boy. Including but not limited to racial minorities being gunned down by police along with minorities going on violent riots and the impact it has on race relations. All thinly veiled as "robots and humans".

You made it sound like it was rehashing King Kong or something, the whole "beast with a heart of gold" thing, when the actual message is a totally different one. You claimed you're "above" the story while failing to understand it.

The manga story is better, I won't lie. A lot of details are just worse in the anime re-interpretation. But that is simply what it is: a re-interpretation. Unlike the 80s anime which tried to adapt the manga and did a horrible job at being Tezuka, they realized they can't be Tezuka and made their own version of the story. And I appreciate that.

I recommend reading the original arc, entirely compiled in Volume 3 of the manga, before watching this. The manga is better, but this is still pretty good and miles above the ugly, badly animated, redundant 80s version.

Ah, this was surprisingly a bit sad considering the context and nature behind robots in general, not just Pluto. What an unfortunate fate Pluto had suffered. Only in his final moments had he realized that he had something to protect, that you're free to have your own will. The seemingly tears in his robotic eyes that in all accounts isn't even logically possible was a tinge emotional to me. It gets to show that robots can have emotions, despite the minor extreme discrimination they face from certain people. You can't help but draw a parallel between robots and real-life happenings regarding different races and religions.

We need more 2 part episodes like this. I wish we had a bigger plot to make the anime move forward. These are just one offs.
