| I'm going to answer under the assumption that you mean "obsessed" in an unhealthy sense, like an addiction. Most of the things posted in this thread sound like typical stuff that someone who is really in to a medium would do, not just anime lovers. Someone who collects a lot of anime paraphernalia is not "obsessed" in an unhealthy sense. People who love video games, sports, military weapons, guns, movies, etc do the exact same thing. Are they sad? Nope. Likewise, watching over 1000 anime is perfectly doable if you've been watching anime for several years, probably decades. Said person could still have had plenty of time to be sociable and pursue other hobbies. Having an extensive number of completed anime does not mean the person is "sad" or "obsessed." To me, something goes from a simple hobby to an unhealthy obsession when you constantly neglect your personal needs and responsibilities in order to indulge in the hobby. It becomes like a drug, where you cut off all contact from everyone and stop taking care of yourself, going to work/school, or paying your bills just to buy and watch anime. Now THAT'S obsession. |

| I know, that anime has become an obsession for me. When all i almost do, is watch anime, talk about anime and think about anime. I am what you might call a bit of a loner. And anime, yeah it started like a hobby. Watch a couple of episodes of One Piece every week. But then. "IT", happened. I found Rom/com's I watch at least 1 full anime, per day, if i have the time. I really want to stop, but. It makes me feel good. So it obivously has become an obsession for me :3 |

There are varying degrees of obsession though, and I think the turning point would be when you start to feel like you are fast-forwarding through everything else in your life except for the time you spend doing anime-related things. Studying, work, socialising with other people, spending time with your family - when you find your mind on autopilot through all of these activities, and the only time you come back alive is when it's anime time, then you are obsessed. You fan-boy/girl spaz whenever the word anime is mentioned in the real world You don't go outside anymore Your friends stop talking to you because of it. You learn to play an instrument just to play anime songs. You become a weabo Cosplay Spending tons of money on it Yeah.....there are tons more I'm just too lazy to type. |
