The art is really breathtaking. The story is quite nice as well. The combat system though is super flawed. However, it left me with a good feeling when I completed it. It is worth it, even if you will only play it once.

Now that's aside....

Hitler already mentioned the hidden gem "Yakuza" those games are manly as fuck.

The "Summon night: Swordcraft Story" games on the gba are pretty neat.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon... especially explorers of sky. The story is where this game shines at. I bet you'll cry at the end for an euro.

Shin Megami Tensei. For obvious reasons "omgz persona 4 is the best geam ever the main seriez haz no social links, thus I don't need 2 play iiit.!"

Nocturne>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Persona 4

i aggree with most of what you say
Fushugi no Dungeon. is very underrated in the us form what iv seen thats cause us gamers hat hard games for the most part

Yeah, I recommend Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 2 and most Shiren the Wanderer games, also try Powder, which is a really good Western made roguelike.

chunsoft fanboy no 1 here i have betten all of the games in the FnD Franchise the best newer onw was shounen yangus on PS2

A flawed gem, huh? Well, I have a thing for pretty/whimsical/unusual artstyles which was what attracted me to it in the first place. Better than all the brownish games we've been getting lately. Guess I'll check it out. Thx.

I would have to disagree with you about Enix and Sega, while they do have some obscure gems, they also have tons of extremely popular IPs.

The ones I like which I think are relatively obscure?

Grim Fandango
Nier
Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines
Valkyrie Profile
Ys series

Most of them sold like shit, VP is an exception but most of the sales came from domestic market.

I would recommend Aura's Wrath for Xbox 360 or PS3. It's barely a game, however seeing as you're on an anime fan-site, you are the target audience. The whole experience reads like a love letter to pre-2000 shonen anime series. The game is at once wacky yet deadly serious, and completely bonkers. I loved it and was totally worth the 30 dollars that I paid.

MAG is a very unknown(compared to shit like CoD, Crysis, etc) but is much better. Most CoDfags don't like it because the learning curve is much longer, but it takes a lot more skill to kill someone, and it ends up feeling more satisfying in the long run when you do well.

I would recommend Little Fighter 2 and Cave Story.
Though, CS is gaining popularity ever since Nintendo got it's hands on it and that a sequel is to be made.

I've been playing both for about 8 years and there hasn't been a year that I haven't played LF2. XD It's an amazing game.

Shining Force

Just to name a few.

Does Cave Story count? I mean, its still not that popular despite being amazing. The original version of it is free too!

It's definitely gaining in popularity though. I remember when it was just a fan patch of a freeware game, now there's a port on pretty much every Nintendo system.

i said ten games not Sries but point taken and 10 i a round number
Valkyrie Profile is Tri ace on enix and i said no dragon quest too but in the US as we have said DQ is underrated there is so much of the Franchsie not resled there

I can't really vouch for how "not popular" these games are, considering most of them have a pretty dedicated fanbase and/or are considered cult classics, but...

Bastion
Braid
Cave Story
Fragile Dreams
Grandia II
Ico
Limbo
the Mother trilogy
the Quintet/Soul Blazer Trilogy
Shadow of the Colossus
Skies of Arcadia
Sword & Sworcery
Tales of Phantasia/Symphonia/the Abyss

And I'll second whoever said to look at Steam's indie game selection; some of the above are on there.

And I'll toss in Final Fantasy IX. Just because.

I'd agree with most of those except for Limbo because I thought it was terrible, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus because they were popular enough to get an HD collection, and FF IX because FF is one of the most popular RPG series' of all time next to Pokemon and Dragon Quest.

The "Summon night: Swordcraft Story" games on the gba are pretty neat.

I have to disagree with Starforce because its predecessor, Mega Man Battle Network, was a far more polished and well designed series. MMBN3 is the best by far.

Summon Night Swordcraft Story all the way though.

Zone of the Enders is largely overlooked from a western perspective, but it's still clearly a high budget AAA game.

Dragon's Dogma was kind of swept under the carpet after Skyrim, but people that are devoted to games like Dark Souls will like it, and usually know of it.

Lost Odyssey.

Deadly Premonition.

.hack (original) series - largely dismissed as a low-budget loot grinder, but the game's lore surpasses any other such title conceptually

Rainbow Six: Vegas (2) - The smoothest and most polished tactical shooter in existence (I consider this title overlooked in comparison to the popularity of alternative shooters)

Armored Core V - FUN AS SHIT, but I understand that half of the fun I had was with my online teammates. You have to find good partners to play with online to fully enjoy this title.

It's a platformer, but not a fast one like Sonic. It's more of a puzzle/platformer, where you have to use the enemies to your advantage to get through the levels.

It is not anything like Sonic, it's way better. Also the Wii version is a remake of the first one for PS1 and the second one for PS2 is probably the best out of the the four of them (there are two for GBA).
