According to New York Times, a US TV channel FOX Networks will end its Saturday morning block of cartoon programs in January 2009. 4Kids Entertainment has been holding the block since 2002 and airing cartoons including Japanese animations: "Kirby: Right Back At Ya!", "Yu-Gi-Oh!". "Kodai Ouja Kyouryuu King", "Ojamajo Doremi", "Shaman King". The deal between FOX and 4Kids will be terminated at the end of December 2008, and 4Kids will concentrate the programs on CW Networks. Fox executives explained the reason that network TV channels could no longer survive the competition for the children's programs from the cable channels.

Not surprising, but man it feels like the end of an era, kinda like when Toonami died a while ago but not as....memorable? In any case, good times were had. It will be (kinda) missed.

FOX TV was going down a horrible anime block, it was quite decent at the start but the quality of the animes that were dubbed and aired diminished over time, airing crappy anime shows will do that to a station *nod nod*

But you do have to admit that cartoons that they did showed in the past around the 1990's up to 2000 or 2001 were decent.

I only liked it back when it was Fox Kids. Or that may have just been because of Power Rangers and Digimon.

agreed. I haven't watched SAT AM cartoons in a long time. But it says something when a big network station can't compete w/ cable ones. Bad programming and a lack of interest probably.

I can't say I'll miss it, especially since they're not even airing Shaman King anymore, which was the only reason I watched FOX's Saturday morning line-up~

I blame Saved by the Bell. ;)

Still, I have to give Fox credit. Back in the 90s when it seemed like Saturday morning would become nothing more than a place to shove live-action teen shows and the federally-required hours of educational/informational shows, Fox came through with some really good shows like The Tick. Too bad they got tied in too deeply with 4Kids.

It seems like kids anime is getting banned from American TV....Now is the era of midnight anime.....

The endless debate between fans and haters. At one point, after spending a lot of time on MAL, you just realize it's totally pointless.

I wouldn't say banned so much as no one wants to watch it anymore. And there's still Pokemon, right? ;P

I remember watching Fox Kids for digimon, and that was only about it.
Thank god though..I watched 30 something episodes of Shaman Kind Subbed, and decided I wanted to see what the dub version was like...Crap..is all I can say.

Even though I stopped watching it a long time ago, I must feel that this is truely the end of an era. The 1st anime I ever saw was Digimon on fox kids, and for awhile it was the only anime I could watch since I would not have cable till one year later, and for some reason I couldn't pick up the WB. But once it became the fox box I knew it was only a matter of time before it ended, and now its slow and painful death is almost finished.

It was bound to happen. Though with Toonami getting canned and now this it makes you wonder how anime is going to survive on TV. Well other than Adult Swim, Colors TV, and the Funimation Channel.

[AS] and Sci-Fi, being the most readily available channels w/ anime, will have to lead the way now.

Boy, am I envious of you guys w/ access to Colors TV and the Funi Channel >.<

finally. the pain of animu stops. well, i only supported digimon until they quit and gave it to Toon Disney.

Sakata-san said:

colours tv don't support animu anymore. ;.; in the US. i remember that i watched Kodocha on Colours TV's Funi block.

There is always Scifi's animonday (Gindam 00 & Yami no Matsue) and IFC's "something i forgot.. xD" (Jigoku Shoujo).

Toon Disney has animu, too... but it's all hidden. ;.; I remember Shinzo (or Mushrambo), Digimon (all 5 series), and a few others~

IFC is our best hope for anime that's more of the indie genre. Which is good, unless their anime block goes the way of IC/AZN ):

Woops forgot about those. Then again I never was really into Sci-fi's animondays until they started airing Gurren Lagann. Then after that finished there wasn't much interesting stuff to me.

I don't have the funi channel but i do remember at a time before that they had aired the new Fist of the North Star series. That just made me so friggin happy. ='D

thats true, shaman king and one piece were the best shows they had on there, but then they started showing them at like 4am, who does that?
the only way to stop a gamer from playing is either: beat them, or wait until they get bored (though 2% percent suffer seizures

I think it became Fox Box after that. Because I watched in the Escaflowne days (also watched Digimon, Monster Ranchers, Tranformers, Flint the Time Detective etc.) but I remember several years later tuning it and thinking "fox box? the heck?". I feel like Fox Box was more Winx era. And Ultimate Muscle.

Or then again maybe my memory is bad in my old age here.

Ask the thousands of kids, myself including, who got up before the sun rose to watch then-new episodes of Pokemon ;D
