every time i go to an anime convention i am reminded as to why i put the figs away, shove my cyborg 009 dvds out of view, and hide the manga in a cubbyhole

i walk around 24/7 and then some ashamed of liking anime and manga, mostly because my city is for some reason riddled with the weeaboo virus

No, I have never questioned my interest/love for anime because of others. I don't really hide it either, if someone doesn't like me for a shallow reason like that, I don't see a reason to care about what they think about me.

As such I have no trouble talking about it in public or showing it.

That said, I have nothing to do with people who act like narutards, 40y guys with magical girl shirts, people who use crappy Japanese to sound more Japanse, etc etc, you get the idea desu! (unless it is to make fun of them :P)

Oh geez, that video of the guy "turning" super saiyan was embarrassing to watch. Wonder if his parents overheard and thought he was on drugs.

If someone asks what I do in my spare time, I'm fine with mentioning that I'm an anime fan and I don't hide the stuff in my head. With that said, I don't try to "convert" people to the fandom or say gomen when I bump into people normally. I go to cons and usually go for the panels and guests more than anything but the weeaboos make me really feel like they're a different species sometimes. I don't know why someone of them need to squeal at earsplitting levels at the sight of voice actors.

Okay, the worst weeaboo moment I witnessed was a few years back when I was cosplaying (as a guy, something I now regret) and two girls (also cosplaying) assumed that meant I was a fellow yaoi fangirl so they started pretty much playing tug o' war with my arms, turning my skin red with the twisting. The one girl also asked me to go to her hotel room to help her get her camera, though saying it, uh suggestively and also asked if she could hit me with her yaoi paddle. >_< I said no to both. Still creeps me out to this day.

I expect someone to say that it's my fault for crossplaying in the first place.

I see what you did there.
As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all.

Well. I'll share a story first: Today while I was on the computer in my college, an obese, Caucasian male (let me be politically correct) sat next to me. He was breathing heavily and mumbling to himself. I looked at his screen and there were pictures of female anime characters "posing" and then he started talking to the screen and laughing loudly. I heard some kids in the back say, "He's into that ******* weird Asian **** - that's why he's crazy." At that moment, I questioned my own interest of anime.

Question is: Have you ever witnessed something that made you question your own love of anime or be ashamed?

Ok some things a person likely would not admit to, such as have you ever masturbated while looking at something anime oriented. Ok most have trouble just admitting they masturbate :)

But, it is easy to feel a bit awkward about liking anime when you consider some of the anime community sure makes us all look collectively 'peculiar'. You only need to visit sankaku complex to realise some of the anime crowd are freaks :)

Still, if I had to pick groups of people I have known and or been connected to that I truly regretted wasting some of my life associated with, I'd pick old men on wargaming forums over closeted virginal otakus.
It's simple.... I can understand the otakus, they simply don't know any better. Poor pathetic wretches actually thinking 2d girls are better than even plain jane real females. But the old men, those miserable mean nasty politically opinionated anti social vicious old bastards should know better.

Guys, enjoy your anime, and enjoy the silly along with the awkward and even embarassing portions. It's harmless fun. You could be doing worse with your time.

Like arguing over US or European politics, or both, or all manner of other typical cliche old people attracting topics for ranting and screaming.

Stay young, refuse to grow up, stay immature. There is no bonus to acting mature. You don't get any priviledges, no special perks. The moment you stop being a kid, you only have getting old and dying left to accomplish.

My personal objectives, lose the waist, make it possible to dress up as Sailor Moon, enjoy dressing up totally, no holds barred. Act like an idiot at Anime North. Have a blast doing so. Or maybe Hatsune Miku.
I don't dream of moving to Japan (too many earth quakes and volcanoes). I don't expect to learn to speak Japanese. I don't think their food is so exciting. I might not mind visiting Tokyo as a cliche tourist just as long as I had a person to speak Japanese for me. I don't consider visiting Akihabara to be a must see place.

But I have never hidden my love of anime. I have a large Haruhi Suzumiya cloth wall scroll poster up in my hobby room (which is mostly tanks though). I often play anime and or vocaloid music loud enough to be annoying.

But I would not consider myself a weeaboo. I have too many interests that have nothing to do with Japan (aside from the fact that Tamiya is my favourite model company).
While not technically anime, currently I am a big fan of Hatsune Miku.
At least I can go see her in concert.

Not really no. Every hobby in the world has the bad side to it. In anime you have weeaboos, in sports you have the rigged games and the dope, in books you have Twlight etc etc. Why should I feel ashamed cause some ppl are doing it wrong?

I like anime and that's it. I'm not proud nor ashamed. It's just a hobby. I can't say that it's the first thing I tell ppl when I meet them for the first time since ppl tend to be judgemental but I don't rly say right away my hobbies. If the opportunity comes, sure. If not, oh well. I'm not hiding it but I won't be more open about it than other things.

I stopped watching this, 10 seconds in....IT"S JUST TOO PAINFUL!

Anyways, I used to have some weeaboo moments back when I was 7 or 8 and was obsessed with Naruto, but I've outgrown it now. (Thank goodness) Now I'm just the opposite, people who do this tend to annoy me. (No offense to anyone who does it)

I knew this kid back in middle school, he would come to school every day wearing a Naruto headband, he'd have his hair spiked up, would always sit cross legged in his chair, trying to "focus his chakra" as he put it, and he would always try "fighting" people during recess, with the Naruto hand signs and shit.

It's these people who go overboard that give anime and manga a bad name...

I was a weeaboo in seventh grade when I first got into it. But then I learned how to appropriately act in public while not at a convention. I'm horribly embarrassed by adults that still act like twelve year olds. But I'm not ashamed at all of my interest in anime just because a few people act like idiots. You shouldn't care so much what other people think of your interests.
