A relatively good episode despite it largely being flashbacks to how the 'parents' (I don't know how else to word this lmao) of the Madoka... umm 'siblings' met and the escavation of Gilgamesh's tomb. Normally-- in my opinion at least-- flashbacks disrupt the momentum of the main story-- well it's obvious isn't it-- but in this case it actually boosted it because it is so rundown!

In the remaining five minutes it appears that the Countess' fragile family set up has finally been broken through her being too manipulative-- even if it is for the greater good!

Very nice flashback. The meeting was sweet and tied directly to the plot. Nice.
Fuko and Toru are being a bit dramatic. Tatsuya totally freaked out. Good to see that Fujisaki can keep it together.

What is this "Gilgamesh" anime? I am the one and only Gilgamesh. Anyone else is nothing but a pretender. Filthy mongrels...
Please no Narutards. No one likes them.

I found it to be quite fascinating, the flashbacks were a nice mirror since it was showing how the parents met and how the mother found out she was pregnant just as Kiyoko was in a coma thanks to her pregnancy. I think it was really good.

I can't wait to see what happens next.

I wish we'd had this episode a bit sooner. So much makes more sense now.

The countess fragile family is finally broken. She manipulated way too much and is paying the price now. I totally understand Tatsuya''s fury at her too

It’s great to finally have this flashback episode showing the origins of not just the Heaven’s Gate research facility, but also how Tatsuya and Kiyoko’s parents originally met. And man… it is a sad thing, to see these two human beings who at one point were young and in love, doing cool science stuff, but one day Dr. Madoka fucks the whole world up and leaves his wife and kid behind, and said wife goes on to become a drunk terrible mother because of it.

But besides that, very cool to see how they originally discovered Gilgamesh’s tomb and begun building the laboratory that definitely doesn’t look like the base of operations for a comic book villain, like really why did they make it like that lol, it’s cool looking and fits the vibe of the show but still. And then there was the stuff with Tatsuya and the children near the end, Tatsuya blew up quite literally at the Countess, and even if he’s in the right, I don’t think that baby being born from Kiyoko’s dead body (kinda metal af tho) is gonna be good for the world. And the children were being a bit dramatic but it’s about time they discovered the truth, I’m glad Fujisaki was man enough to confront the Countess about it, we probably got another flashback episode coming but if it’s anything like this one, it should be great.

Tatsuya and Kiyoko’s mom says she heard rumors that time reversed itself around Uruk. Is this foreshadowing for some time travel shenanigans being introduced into the series?

I wonder if Terumichi distrusts Yuki (who is presumably the Chairman) because he knows of Yuki’s hinted-at history of abusing Countess. I expect to learn more about Terumichi and Countess’s relationship, and Yuki and Countess’s, within the next few episodes.

No nation is supposed to own Heaven’s Gate, but Yuki is referred to as its main sponsor. I don’t think Mittlight and their Shinra Building were truly being used to reverse the effects of XX; I don’t trust Yuki. Then again, even bad people are capable of working toward positive goals.

Tatsuya finally lashes out against Countess. He takes a defensive posture by building some kind of cyber nest around himself and Kiyoko. I wonder if he’ll join Gilgamesh now, or if he’ll stick to his original plan of facing his “father” in his own way, or whatever it was he told Kiyoko he wanted to do many episodes ago. He’s in a very emotionally unstable state, so whatever his next moves are, I’m sure they won’t be wise or calculated.

The devil children finally learn that they were birthed by pigs. I like that the show still hasn’t totally explicitly spelled this out for the viewers, despite how obvious it is at this point.

Countess is losing control of the devil children, who are her only means of accomplishing her goal of stopping Gilgamesh. She was too abusive, despite her efforts to emulate a normal life for them via family dinners and a cushy place to live. Money can’t buy everything.

I hope we learn more about the Gilgamesh kids and how their “family” functions soon - I’m sure it will serve as an interesting contrast to the devil children. To what extent is their loyalty to Terumichi (and this “mother” figure) bought through coercion vs. genuine kindness?
