That cage was a bit ridiculous. How did he know that everyone would stand right in that spot? What triggered it? Bah.

I love the (pseduo-)historical narrative here: the communities of secret adherents to the illegal Christianity, the forest of crucified corpses, and now seeing the fate of Japan now being played out in a cave network of an otherwise backwater settlement. (This is probably a retarded question, but does Meiji history attest any actual Shimbara, with maybe Dutch-backed Japanese Christians with ambitions of taking over, or is it all just made-up? Because occasionally I'll be surprised to learn that such-and-such an aspect or character of RK is historical ... would be a cool story if so.

I have to say, I really like that RK is displaying Christianity the way it is. After Shougo was first introduced, I expected some type of anti-Christian message, but it's actually quite the opposite. It's displaying the reality of Christian persecution and martyrdom in pre-Christianized civilizations, and it's very rare for me to see a fictional work do so - especially anime. Props for that.

What i always learn from flashbacks is that 90% of sword-owners are shit with them, and kids can kick their ass.

Agreed, I was worried as well, (as I'm also a Christian) but it seems to be playing out in a decent way, the bad guy has made his own twisted version of what he calls Christianity, but the people are simply being misled.... it's not saying Christianity is wrong, it's just using a false form, many of which have appeared in the past and today.

Damn that backstory! I guess those events really did happen in some parts of the world! That ending was also quite interesting, let's see what's next!

I think it's really interesting to see Christianity as a secret and mysterious cult with ties to the local people. It helps the viewer understand what drove the people too it.

Pretty good episode overall too with the tragic backstory and exciting cliffhanger. The cave was pretty weird as others have mentioned. I really didn't like that part at all. The part where the guy got impaled was particularly bloody and gory, and then later we have weirdly bloodless sword duels. This show has such a mixed way of showing violence that it really bugs me. It's like... just make up yr mind. I don't really care either way.
