THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
I think this was the end of novel 17, someone clarify this for me if possible.

Hecate's jealous fit went as expected, AND WE FINALLY GET SHANA IN THAT AWESOME DRESS!

And as some might have guessed, the flame haze sent to help Rebecca and Wilhelmina is someone we already know.

YOU GUYS WANTED ACTION!? WELL YOU WILL FINALLY GET IT NEXT WEEK. In the meantime im glad we got these few episodes to get everything prepared for the war.

Wow, Yuiji did really man up. Things are starting to look really interesting now, seems like we'll get some episodes full of action the coming weeks. Can't wait!

Also... Shana looked really good in that dress!

I have to say so far I'm enjoying this season the most I think. I've seen some people comment on other episodes about how boring it is and no action, etc. I like the fact they take a few episodes to build up the story, makes it more interesting and gives the series some depth. That being said, I can't wait til the war starts up. Should be some nice action sequences I hope.

I have been a huge Shakugan no Shana fan since the beginning and this season saddens me in several ways. (I am not saying it is boring) As much as I hated Yuuji in the previous seasons I hate seeing both him and Shana like this. I miss the old times.. :( On the other note, can't wait until the next episode! Seems like we are going to see much more action like we wanted. :)

I'm going to guess it's Wilhelmina/Rebecca beating up on the Tomogara throwaways that were merely introduced this season so they could get beat up. Where the fuck were all these countless Tomogara when Wilhelmina and Shana went to go get Yuuji as he was held captive so Hecate could do her mind melding stuff so Bal Masque could create infinite power of existance? The only people that were guarding Seireiden at that point were the Trinity and the Professor with his crazy robots. And now I'm expected to believe there are a huge swarm of Tomogara just sitting there defending? Holy shit did this author ever fuck up immensely. I knew the third season couldn't possibly live up to the first season, but this has just been dreadful.

The "action" that will occur next episode(s) will be meaningless. The Trinity for some reason (?) went with Snake of the Festival through the portal. So who gives a shit about fighting. It's obvious that is the only way the author could think of for Shana to get rescued. Man, no wonder the Shana fans in Japan are not pre-ordering this series. They probably knew it would be terrible from having read the light novels.

all the names and titles and such are finally getting to me. especially with the discrepancies between translators and such. the re-introduction of Kha-whatever and Behemoth obviously didn't help.

i've been wondering about that Hougu that Kazumi obtained for a while now. ever since she obtained it in S2 it seemed to me like it was a guaranteed death flag for her character. but after the story of the prince and the monster, I guess it'll just change what context Kazumi decides to use it under.

and I guess the Seireiden is the most vulnerable right now? despite Snake of the Festival and the three other generals following him into limbo, there still remains quite a number of well prepared Denizens, and a few bigshot names like the Destructive Blade. if Wilhelmina and Rebecca actually go through with their suicide-plan or whatever, it'd still be one hell of a hard fight.

It would be better for you to research a bit before jumping to conclusions. That S1 battle you mentioned was never part of the light novels, the last 4 episodes of S1 were all completely anime original. Now im not defending JC Staff here, but for you to attack the writer of the novels over events that he didnt create is just dumb.
You want to be mad? be mad at the anime adaptation, but dont bring the author's writing skills into this argument, cause its already obvious that you dont know what you are talking about.

Wow, so the better episodes of the first season were anime original? That is something I did not know. Thanks for the info.

EDIT: I do have a question though. Where were these Tomogara in the first two seasons? Or were they in season 2? I can barely remember season 2. Just Pheles and Sabrac and I blocked out all of that Hecate crap from the first half. But seriously, this vast legion of Tomogara that Bal Masque has really should have been introduced before the third season.

Good episode,the last transition episode.

Things start to move,Shana get saved by Yuuji from a jealous Hecate and he also explain the other reason she abducted Shana.

Khasmin story was interesting, this will help Kazumi decide wtf to do specially with the cross and when she will use it.

The Sereiden is ready and Yuuji and the 3 generals travel to the Abyss things will start to move next episode the War Begins!!!

and of course Shana on the dress was sooooooooooooooooo Cute!!

I was lost for most of the exposition.

I'm glad I didn't have to learn a new name today. Still.

"I, Hecate, Priestess of Bel Masque must terminate the Flame-Haired Burning Eyed Hunter and quickly, before the Manipulator of Objects who wields the power of the Crown and Sash of Fantasies arrives! It's only a matter of time before the Interpreter of Condolence, Margery Daw awakens with the intervention of the Claw and Fangs of Violation. Do you not agree with me, he who shares the consciousness of the Snake of Festival and houses the being of the Lost Child, Sakai Yuji?"

Great episode, it seems like the war is going to start sooner than i expected. Hecate jealousy resumed like i expected, all though it was interesting to see Yuji/Snake of the Festival's reasoning for keeping Shana alive, i simply thought he would say don't touch her period and demonstrate his superior power to get Hecate to back off. It will be interesting to see what the Snake of the Festival meant by his "real body", and also judging from the preview the timing for their departure couldn't have been worse since it seems Wilhelmina is starting her break in for Shana. Looking forward to the next episode, hopefully we get some good action like we did in episode 4.

However, can someone explain to me why Yuji looked depressed immediately after he yanked shana by the arm? That part was strange to me

It's either due to her reaction (she's still very withdrawn toward him), or him thinking about having to leave her shortly. Either way it's conflicting emotions, and this is going to be a very important thing to keep in mind for the rest of the show.

I agree, it actually seems like a better thought mature work right now. For me is like the people with shitty taste that where posting all over the internet that a half-decent show like Shakugan no Shana was a masterpiece actually got disappointed now that the show actually tries to be a little better because they wouldn't know good writing and correct build-up even if it beat them in the ass and just watch less thought childish things.
Yuji is so much more intriguing and better now, Shana stoped being just an annoying moe tsundere thing shouting urusai all the time and acts more like a girl with emotion and the tense situation between them of the events to come is so much more interesting than any simplistic fights we had the first two seasons. Hell the second season was mostly just a harem for Christ sake.

This episode confused me quite a bit - Could someone clarify these details for me?

* Is Shana afraid of Yuji or not? Does she hate him or does she 'love' him? The part in the previous episode where she said "The most powerful unrestricted spell is 'Love' - and I have found it" really tipped me off. So is she suddenly smitten with him now?

* Yuji's explanation to Hecate as to why he really kidnapped Shana was confusing to me as well. I do not really get what he said. I kind of interpreted it a bit weird - to me, it sounded pretty harsh on Shana (something along the lines of I'm only using her, it's not solely because I love her); did she not mind at all? What is Shana really thinking?

Help me please, guys!

1. She loves him, but she's just different and kinda insecure without Alastor and her blade, so she was afraid of him and she didn't know why his hand scared her so much untill she remembered how she held hands with Shiro, who loved her(too).
2. That was the Snake of Festival talking, not Yuji. He said he kept her not only because of the great love his host - Yuji, has for Shana, but because she can help too.

I find it ironic how Bal Masque gets majority of the screentime during the whole season (there were 3 episodes focused on Bal Masque and 1 episode focused on the Flame Hazes). During the past 2 seasons, we barely know anything about the Bal Masque, and we barely get any information about them. They're portrayed as your generic villains during the first 2 seasons, while the Flame Hazes are portrayed as your generic heroes. Come season 3, and it show that Flame Hazes aren't necessarily your generic heroes (there's the political BS in episode 6, Sophie Sawalisch seems to be suspicious, and Freider is ... a bit asshole), and the Bal Masque aren't necessarily your generic villains who wants to destroy for the lulz.

P.S: It kinda make sense to me now why Hecate has been praying/meditating during the first 2 seasons.

P.S 2: Also, it's disappointing how the destruction of Shanghai branch of Outlaw wasn't depicted (only in season 2 episode 18 and in the first 5 minutes of S3's episode 2 was that depicted) seeing that it has a big influence on the events of the series.

Don't you know about the effect that men have on women that are attracted to them? Especially now that he finally is acting like man? LOL

But on a serious note, I'm sure that she just feels powerless without her sword and Alestor's guidance.
